Opps its a 5.3 I do not want a crazy bore stroke maybe... strength and longevity is a goal in this build. I want too be able too drop 40lbs of boost and a shot of 200 nos . and have it handle it like a champ

I am rarely an advocate for this but it would seem that if you are truly going for these HP numbers then you would be hands down better off converting to a SB or BB Chevy. A 700 lb 850 HP V12 would run you an estimated 20k from what I've read and be fairly high strung at that vs. a Chevy motor that would be probably 8-10K and be 75% less weight and have off the shelf parts if you do have a mishap. Another alternative would be any number of Toyota or Nissan I-6's. 900 streetable HP seems to be fairly common these days.

Can I tow it with the rear wheels on the road or will it blow up the transmission? I'm going to use a dolly but it sure would be easier if I could put the dolly under the front wheels. Thanks, Kev

850hp jesus, you're gonna want forced induction. for the motor id go with a set of performance rods and forged pistons. possibly dish. I have pre he dish pistons if you're interested. to run with forced induction. you're gonna want distrutorless ignition, and new engine management.

I've never seen anyone who makes a 1200motor and TWR Had trouble keeping the 850hp motors from blowing up. like I hate to rain on the party but you might wanna compromise to like 700hp

How fast and how far? There's a reason RWD cars are typically towed with rear wheels up.

The Jaguar service manual suggest 30 miles max, 30 mph max....after adding an additional 3 pints of ATF. I suspect you'd find similar cautions in any GM service manual for cars using the 400 (or most any other) automatic trans.

It's customary to disconnect the drive shaft when towing with rear wheels down for anything but a short run

<shrug>

Cheers
DD

It's 100 miles. I can grab it by the rear wheels if I have to. Some transmissions don't have the pump in the rear so the shaft doesn't actuate it. I wasn't sure about this transmission. Better to be safe on this matter. Jumping off this post. I've really hijacked too much of it already.
Very good info on the HP issues though. I'll keep monitoring it for ideas with my 87 XJS race car. Thanks everyone for the input. Kev

you're gonna wanr forged pistons then. and some kind of dish piston, seeing as the stock ratio is 11.5 to one

I would also like too get rid of the three speed automatic and find a t56 adapter plate and put that behind the v12. Does anyone know who makes a kit like that?

The towing stuff needs to be in its own thread. The conversation has become disjointed and hard to follow.

OP: If you didn't know the V12 runs a high compression ratio, you are in for some more costly discoveries down the road.

I would take a step back, get yourself familiar with the stock power plant, read about other forced induction builds, then start your planning.

This is not going to be a cheap build (especially done right), even providing the labor yourself.

That said, if you have the skill and motivation to see it through, why not develop it in kit form (twin turbo please), and sell it for $5k Bet you'd move a couple.

Here's a freebie to get started. Do some searches, you'll find everything you've been asking has been discussed at length.

Man, I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm - I'm just speaking from experience. Unless you have some deep pockets and a tolerance for ongoing repairs, you will absolutely kick yourself for spending money on cosmetics before getting the car running right.

They are notorious for (with years of neglect) overheating, catching on fire, running slow as hell, not starting, quitting unexpectedly.

Screw the rims.

1. get your ignition checked out (FIRE)
2. replace all the fuel lines (FIRE)
3. refresh all fluids (FIRE)
4. lubricate the chassis

once that is all good:

5. suspension + brakes. rear brakes will cost a fortune
6. exterior (bound to be rust, and a proper paint job won't be cheap)
7. interior (Connelly leather, same as Rolls Royce - AIN'T CHEAP)
8. ??
9. Profit.

Fellas, am I wrong?
