How did you work that out because it is kind of at odds with the colour codes in the book?

 

The white plastic relay is a little translucent, shine a flashlight behind it...looked like the blue wire was internally connected to the #1 terminal coming into the relay.

Additionally, some internet searching led me to a site of someone who rebuilt an XJ-6 motor (I know, not the same) and he had a note in there: "If your speeds are reversed (i.e. high working on low switch position and low working on high switch position) swap the red and yellow wires from the brush plate". That led me to the conclusion that blue was earth and red and yellow were for each individual speed, assuming that Jaguar may have used different wiper setups but to keep costs down used the same brush plate or at the very least the same wiring color-coding scheme between XJ-6 and XJ-S.

Specifically what are you referring to in the book? I've looked all over the ROM and wiring diagram for hookups for the three wires that attach to the brush plate. Even where they are shown they're nonspecific, and the diagram posted in this thread is from an earlier solenoid-park system and shows a brown wire. Both my '85 reverse-park motors have yellow, red and blue coming off the brush plate.

Thoughts?

 

OK, I finally bit the bullet and shelled out $300 for a rebuilt wiper motor for my '85 XJ-S coupe.

Before I had no wiper function whatsoever. Now, my wipers do work -
problem solved, right?

Wrong. The new motor does not park or run in the delay mode. Hi
and Lo run just fine.

Is this the park solenoid then? I did swap out the column stalk
switch with another one, prior to the motor crapping out it was
fully functional. The motor behaves the same way with both stalk
switches.

Reading through Kirby's book, he mentions a simple test, if you
move the stalk switch between OFF and Delay (without going fully to
delay), and the wipers park then, the switch is bad. When I do
this the wipers move just a tiny twitch but do not actually park.
I can flip back and forth between off and delay and the wipers
continue moving one twitch at a time each time I move the stalk but
do not park.

So, is this my park relay on the motor itself that's bad? The
rebuilder warranties the motors and certifies the park relays are
tested as well.

Wipers were not working, went home put ohm meter in fuse #9 under steering colum got reading, noticed one of the pins were pushed upward and not making full contact on one side of fuse. Got my finger in there and pushed down while inserting fuse WALAH Wipers now working. Hope this can help someone.

 

Thanks. I should have followed up long ago, I actually did fix my wipers. The rebuilder I bought the motor from had been having trouble with a bad batch of park relays he got, so he sent me a new one and all is well.
