Got the blown hose changed from the trans, drove a test loop and got back and found the antifreeze on the floor

I should have looked and measured before ordering that fan...
I do not think there is 14 inches of radiator exposed under the hood in front...
Opps.....

Ordered a few LED kits from v12s, cos I figured being able to see my instrumentation after dark would come in handy.

Other than that, just research - fan alternatives, exhaust mods, trying to find a cigar lighter bezel or figuring out how to fix mine in such a way that I can still remove it if I need to get the ski slope off...

Haha, that was the first thing that came up when I googled it the other day... I may be crazy, but even I know that's a bad deal!

I closed my Iron Lady's bonnet for the first time since May! Yes, since may! And the cheap TriScan bonnet struts held it up so long...

Not much missing until the V12 can fire up again!

Default The Last Drive Of The Summer "Which almost ended in Tears!" XJS V12

To-day We had "The Last Drive of The Summer" which 'in its own way' was almost as sad as either of the Funerals I recently attended.

As the TAX runs out to-day and the Weather also starts to go down hill and while I'm tempted to re-tax her, in case we get a nice day, we've come to the conclusion that it isn't really worth it until 'Spring'

Having said that, the Weather To-day was amazing! with nothing but Blue Skies and lots of Sunshine.

So We packed up a nice Picnic and didn't give a toss about the vast amount of Petrol She would use.

This was going to be a day of really 'Shooting the Breeze' if ever there was one, so banging on the 'Cherry Chapstick' the Sun Tan Cream and Shades, we backed out of the driveway and headed for the Coast.

Flying right through a forest of trees, that were engaged in shedding their leaves all around us, with the V12 right on song and tearing along on the black top, like a rampant guided missile.

The way that this Car Cornered really took my breath away, She simply zonked round Corners like a 'Trick Shot' Billiard Ball and then just went like the hammers of hell coming out.

OMG! I want to go and Tax this Car right now!

On the way we came to a Clearing which was a beautiful Picnic spot, where we found we were able, to drive the XJS up to the Table, where we got out to have lunch.

Which very soon gathered a number of people around us, most of whom wanted to see what was under the bonnet and so in order to get some peace and also avoid indigestion.

I just left the bonnet/hood up, so they could all have a look but then came the usual questions, how fast does She go and also how much Petrol does She use.

And so just for the avoidance of doubt, I just pushed the button, on the trip computer which came up as expected with 15.9 mpg which is always a jaw dropping moment for those who seem to average 50-60 mpg (in normal cars)

How on earth can you afford to run it? To which I reply that We sleep in a Tent in the Garden and have to rely on our close friends to send us Red Cross Parcels!

The real truth being this Car is a drug you can't give up, it almost feels like a Privilage to fill her up with Petrol, no matter how much Petrol this Lady wants to use and She is nothing less than a binge drinker, who just can't seem to get enough of that high octain stuff.

As when you get to turn the key and that Wonderful V12 engine fires up, first with a roar and then with a purr, it feels just like you have just armed a munition, so all you need to do is hit the pedal and just remember the louder She screams, the faster She's going to go!

Which is exactly what we did, as we hit the Coast road to the Sea where She just tore down that Tarmac like a Wild One! It was almost Orgasmic in her intention to thrill.

And then when She had done that in Spades, She just went and did it some more! I was almost crying tears of pleasure! Trust me guys it doesn't get better than this.

Where after a day of Shrills and Thrills, we ended up at a Marina, which overlooked the Sea where we decided to have some Fried Chicken and Chips, which we did so as We watched the night was closing in, where the lights of all the Yachts were dancing on the Water.

A seemingly perfect end to a perfect day.

Except it almost ended in disaster, as some idiot with Alsation Dogs suddenly decided to let them off the lead, when they were only 100 yds from the Car.

And once they smelled that Fried Chicken, they just came bounding over at full speed!

We even had them in Stereo! with one on each side of the Car! and I knew from past experience what was about to happen as they were only second away from leaping up and running their claws down the doors.

There wasn't even time to Start the Engine! So I told the GF to throw out the legs of Fried Chicken as far as She could, while I was ramming the key into the ignition, as I knew they would be coming back for more.

For god sake Start you 'bar steward' and as expected She fired up first time but then as I backed away from the wall, the dogs were bounding back in our direction.

OMG! just what the frigging hell should I do now!!!!?

Is an Alsation Faster than an XJS?

The answer is Yes! but not if you Shot blast them first! and so I waited my moment until I hit the Gas! where those Pirelli 3000's that had Stuck this Car to the road, just like Super glue. Now kicked up the mother of all dust storms and having done so tore that Car so fast down that road, that they made a sound like ripping Velcro!

As luck would have it She survived unscathed but we came close!

Where having now all got home in one piece, we then put that wonderful Car back into the Garage until spring and then walked away into the night with some tears in our eyes.

Can I live without this Car that long?, watch this space as only time will tell.

I did buy 6 gallons of Zerex original green conventional antifreeze a month ago to change out the coolant, but I think i'll wait till next Spring. I did it this past May, so i'm sure i'll be fine. LOL. Only put around 1K miles on it this Summer. Bummer...

you do know that the new TAX requirements mean you can tax your car by DD one month at a time, and sorn when you like,

so you can drive her for another month and then take her off the road, or not

You cannot be Serious! are you sure about that?

When all this new Tax malarky started to kick off, on Yahoo I remember someone asking the very same question.

In as much as they had a 'Classic' that they only wanted, to Tax a Month at a Time.

The Consensus of opinion, was that you had to Tax the Car for 6 months or one Year, whether by direct debit or not.

Obviously they could be wrong as they often are but the new rules were so confusing that their Switchboard very nearly melted down!

Its not that I don't believe you but I wouldn't mind a bit of input from others in the UK, who may agree or maybe put another spin on it.

OB,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the day out!

Yes, BB is right. You can start a 12-month tax period and elect to pay by DD. Then after 30 days, you could just cancel the DD and notify the DVLA that the vehice is now SORN'd. Then when you wish, you can just start a new 12-month tax period by DD, and stop again when you like and SORN again etc etc.

I'm putting the roof down tomorrow and going out for a spin but then I'm taxed all year round anyway!

Hi Paul@BB that is amazing, not to mention great news!

Could I do all this by Telephone, or is there any Hard Copy paperwork involved.

In otherwords how do I set the whole thing up?

Just wondering if its easier to Tax her for another 6 Months and then put in for a refund for the unused months, if you can also do that by phone as well?

I never like to take her out even in damp weather, so it didn't seem worth it to Tax Her all year round.

Anyone else had a near heart attack, with idiot owners letting their dogs of leads when they get near your Car?

@ OB

How high is the roadtax in the UK for an XJS now?

My XJ-S is currently not registered. But if I register her for a year, I've got to pay around €1200... I can also do a seasonal registration on which the car can be driven on... The roadtax is then shortend to the exact period... You don't pay more or less...

Not today but last night so technically less than 12 hours ago!

Did the rubber mounting rings of all 12 injectors last night. Yes, the injectors are dirty BUT you hardly see them anyway so the colour doesn't matter

Followed by doing the HT leads nicely - and tidily! Nothing worse than cables and leads dangling around!

£265!? A YEAR!? That is nothing!

That is like - well - nothing! Mine is around £940/year! Just as a comparisson: my daily driver C30 is about £100!

If my car was 30 years old, I'd pay a flat rate of €178/year...
