Default XJS loss of instruments

Recently all my instruments went dead at once, along with the horn, and perhaps some other items that I haven't discovered yet. It's an 84 XJS-HE V12, with electric speedo, odo, and tach, so I have no idea how fast I'm going, how far I've gone, and whether I have enough gas to get back -- to say nothing of not knowing if I have any oil pressure.

Anybody run across this before? Any suggestions for curing it? All the fuses in the underdash panels seem okay.

Jim

I am not sure if there is another fuse box anywhere on the car - but maybe someone can chime in, because it definately sounds like a fuse issue.

Good guess. It turned out to be not one fuse but three. The problem was that none of the fuses were faulty -- it was the connections to the fuse block that weren't making adequate contact.

General time -- when electricals fail, don't just check the fuses. Check to make sure that the power is actually getting through to the other end. Apply fine steel wool or electrical contact cleaner to the fuse contacts.
