Default XJS Supercharged ECU

I have a AJ16 supercharged XJS sitting in my workshop at the moment, I have had it on the dyno and it is not happy!

Running very lean no big HP figures, the original ECU from the XJR runs the engine OK but will not allow me to play with it so I want to fit a standalone system...

I know a few have fitted these engines into XJSs before and I am curious what they did, the car drives OK but the engine is not going to last long as it stands

I am about to also fit a supercharged AJV8 into another XJS, that will be much more simple!

That's a very neat, clean installation! The nicest XJR-S conversion that I've seen. How does the air inlet work? It seems to use the original air intake point but I can't see the filter arrangement clearly.

Good luck with sourcing the new ecu.

I will like to add, I did not do the install, this was a ground up build done in the US to a very high standard...... There's just a couple of things that need ironing out

Lovely looking installation. If the ECU, loom, injectors etc etc are all 100% from the donor, isn't there a 'standard' reason the engine is now too lean? eg, fuel pressure, fuel delivery, voltage stability etc? maybe some guys in the UK who regularly deal with these engines could suggest something?

My first thought was perhaps an air leak, we will be connecting up to the WDS and clearing the codes, I will go for a bit of a run and see what returns and do some data logging. The MAF is the correct item but that does not throw any codes anyway, I will check it out all the same!

As to the fuel, I have been told the early XJRs had 2 fuel pumps, this maybe something worth looking into....

You don't have to have the complex 2 fuel pump system. As long as you have adequate fuel pressure at the fuel rail you will be fine. You can source a gage and a tee fitting to place it in line to see your pressure. I believe my father sourced one from harbour freight. I also would contact the seller of the car for help as well, as he would be most familiar with it. Good luck sounds like a fun project.

I have no idea if this is the same on the supercharged engine; but the Great Palm's book - which I have been looking at in an attempt to help Jagernut - says that, for the V12 5.3, if the oxygen sensors are shot the ECU will think that there is a very rich condition and leans off the mixture to the max. So maybe worth looking at that item?

Nicely done! That's exactly what I keep thinking of...

Can you please share some pictures showing the installation of the S/C intercooler and the cooling fan installation they converted to?
Can you identify if this is a standard radiator or some kind of an upgraded one?

@Paul: Looks to me like a K&N-ish cone air filter with the stock tube providing some cold air.
