1981 XJS v12 need vacuum advance
Just bought a very nice 81 Jaguar V12 H.E. engine. I hasn't been run since earlier this year but I know it needs the distributor vacuum advance and hope to release the extra idle air control. It is stuck open and hope it is not frozen open. Any suggestions to look for a reasonable price for the distributor vacuum advance?
I had used Jagbits to get a rotor, air filters, and a few others but damn they want a lot for the advance. Any good hints for parts?
Thanks
Russ

Russ, I Googled 'Jaguar JLM519' and the going rate seems to be about $70 for an aftermarket replacement. Jagbits is selling the Jaguar-boxed version for about $97
I don't have any experience with the aftermarket type so I can't comment on quality vs price
Years ago I read about some owners adapting a GM advance module but can't remember the details nor which of the hundreds of different part numbers was deemed best. Perhaps someone here will know
Cheers

Russ:
First. Welcome to the fun.
Then:
I've three ideas:
1. Is the diaphragm in the one in the car busted? Or merely stuck? Free the arm from the plate. In situ or on the bench. Apply a vacuum. A Mitty Vac is perfect. Human suction might work. Or a vacuum line from another running car. Does the arm move ?
2. Source a known good used one from David Boger at everydayxj. He might even have a NOS unit at a good price. Good guy, reasonable, and posts here with help.
3. If you a have a "real" parts place with a knowledgeable counterman, take your over there to see if they can come up with a match.
Jaguar did not make the units. They were out sourced. A common place?
