is this correct? I thought the V12s weren't adjustable like this

No place l can think of where this can be used on a V12.

You are SPOT ON.

That is the tool for the top chain adjuster on the XK 6 cyl engine.

As the vendor says, it's for an XK engine. His suggestion that it "could also possibly fit XJ12...bidders should check suitability for themselves" is just an ill-conceived comment. .
