Antenna relay
Hello everyone. I have a 1988 Hess and Eisenhardt XJS. The antenna stopped working and is stuck up. I checked the relay and there is only power on the white and pink wire. No power coming out of the relay. I presume power has to come out of another wire for the relay to work. Also can anyone tell me what each wire does? Thanks in advance

The relay is a special one that delays the switching off. unplug it and carefully remove the green cover. Chances are you will find the little contacts inside either fused together or badly burnt. Clean them up with a bit of emery and it should start working again. New relays are still available too.

My Lord,
Please excuse my lack of clarity. The reason the aerial is not coming down is because the two points inside the green relay box are fused together and cannot separate. When they do separate, the aerial will come down. The power in that you have identified is not getting to the motor on the aerial to reverse it so the aerial winds in, because the points inside are not switching it because they cannot separate and thus do the switching. Once the points separate there will be power to a third wire from the relay to the aerial motor!

HI Greg,
Thanks again. I got a replacement relay yesterday as it was only $6 on ebay. That made the 10 amp in line fuse on the purple wire marked ariel (antenna ) blow. I replaced that with a 9 amp which also blew then a 14 amp which blew the 15 amp under steering wheel fuse. Further investigation pending when I get more fuses

Weird thing is that now I've replaced the 10 amp fuse on the purple wire the 15 amp main fuse under the steering wheel is blowing. That's the least of my worries after taking the car for a drive today, or trying to. Major coolant leak after just paying for a new water pump and having the radiator rodded
