Marc Allan thank you for the reply.

What is the Heritage Certificate ? The seller seamed to tell the truth as he bought the car brand new with these wheels ( 16 in )

You can order one from the Jaguar Heritage Trust, and they'll research the original records and send you a certificate of how it left the factory. Here is a link to where you order it:

Jaguar Heritage. Heritage Certificate

Before you spend 45 pounds, you can probably email them and ask if the certificate for 1996 would include the type of wheels or not.

PS - I'm sure the original owner isn't lying, it's just a question of whether the Lattice Wheels were dealer or factory installed. Either way, having the 16" version is great for you (classic look, better tire options).

A California meeting is must

As as soon as I find a good and honest detailer then I think we should meet, Don't want to show my car dirty ) I'm located near Studio City /Toluca Lake
Could you guys recommend a good Auto detailer ?

I have to confess, I just realized how much of an A@$L retentive person I'm
I found my self looking seating inside the car .... inspecting, reviewing making sure all buttons were clean etc....

I think that you could order the type of wheels when you ordered the car, just like the colour.

A California meet sounds great, although the state is pretty large and it will mean quite the drive for some, of course, depending on where we do it.

Perhaps we should first start out with a SoCal meet and then work our way up to a state meet. What happens is that, San Francisco is not closer to SoCal than Phoenix/Scottsdale and Vegas members are even closer (4-5 hour drive).

We have to spread this enough to gather members for a discussion and plans. Again, great idea.

Cheers,

Or, maybe, start a new, dedicated thread?

Cheers,

If your car is a 1996 XJS then the correct wheels would be the ones on the gold car:
Well, I think that depends... mine is a (blue!) '95 Celebration model (first registration by 6th of July 1995 in Germany), and AFAIK all Celebration models came with the 11 spoke wheels you asign to the '96 cars. According to Nigel Thorley's book, they were called "Aerosport diamond-turned alloy wheels". I just dug into this thread because I'm looking for a set of them, as my car has the wonderful, but not original real spoke wheels in chrome.
Best regards
Martin

Martin,

Chromed 5-spokes were a factory option on Celebration models to the standard Aerosport wheels.

Ah, o.k. Perhaps it depended also from the country where you bought the Celebration model, as the German Wikipedia also states that the 95 Celebration models were generally delivered with the 11 spoke wheels.
I think they are the ones I should be looking for if I want to put the XJS into its originial state - what do you think?
Best regards
Martin

Martin,

In Europe, more Celebrations had the Aerosport wheels (not sure I've ever seen them referred to as "11-spoke"?). The situation may have been different in the US where there was a penchant for chromed wheels. In fact, the chromed wheels were made in the US.

If you want to be original, get a Jaguar Heritage certificate which will indicate if the option wheel was specified from new. Or if you like both wheels, get the Aerosport ones as it's nigh-on impossible to find anyone who wants to re-chrome the chromed 5-spokes and they do tend to deteriorate over time.

Hope that helps.

Paul

Naaah, too nice a car to let details bother you. Like it is "ripped off.
but, may be reaped like in harvest also fitting!!! Apologies, I delight in word play.

The wheels look right. You liked them when you bought the car. And, that is what counts.

My XJwuzza 6 wears the 15" version of the lattice wheels. I like them a lot and the car looks right with them.

The 16' version is even better as a wider selection of tires is available.

Whew??? I don't recall LA in it's worst SMOG era as bad as it is outside here. Just returned from an abbreviated errand run. Jeep AC made it tolerable.

Oh, 16 inches not feet. JEEP Yokohama tourings. Gnarly off road Wranglers not needed. The original pristine tire and wheel remain the hatch.
