Default FYI leather Color

1993 XJS Coupe Trim code AFW Barley

I purchase a Product called SCUFF that claims "Leather touch up dye kit for scratches and scuffs in leather old and new." Its out of the UK and on eBay. I just used it so I can't comment on longevity. But, it went on like a breeze, smooth and covered well and was a perfect match, not close but perfect! Cost 15 GBP plus shipping. Size is about the same as an airline booze bottle

I had a hard time finding the web site also. This is the product: Scuffmaster | Leather Colours | Leather Dyes
The small box you see half way down on the right 65 ML is about 2" square It will cover one seat if using about two coats. Not cheap but a good product. It is made by GLIPTONE LEATHER CARE Todmorden West Yorks UK When I did the search on that name it came upon on amazon. Don't know if it is the same company.

Yup, that is the correct name of the product. I haven't used it on my Barley XJS because I put brand new leather in it, but I have used it on my XJR's Oatmeal seats. It works fine, especially when first applied, but after about 4 to 6 months it slowly begins to show traces of the cracks and after a year it needs to be re-applied, give or take depending on the use (and probably the driver's weight? although I only weigh 165 Lbs...). This color is likely the most critical to last because Oatmeal is almost white and the cracks tend to be dark, so it shows.

I hope that I find the correct leather that it needs, so I get "new" seats, instead.

Cheers,

For what it's worth - I used to deal with Gliptone on a daily basis (had an upholstery repair company), their stuff is really good. We used a product called Liquid Leather, send them a swatch & they'll make up a colour-matched bottle that you can brush paint on (or spray on... we used to repair sofas mainly).

They don't generally recommend it for high-wear areas (like seat squabs and cushions), presumably because it doesn't last so well... but if you re-apply it as required, who would ever know?

I emphasized color. I am not exaggerating when I said perfect match. If you need to do half or touch up spot on a seat, this product is remarkable. MY CYA is for Barley color only and unknown longevity.

I'd get dye from leatherique, since they actually work with Jags. Then again, the dye wouldn't match anyway, I can tell how much pink used to be in my seats before the sun faded it out. It looks fine, just biscuit colored, but its definitely not the stock color anymore

All the leather in the XJS is coated. So if you just put a dye, whether touch-up or spray over the top, it WILL crack eventually. On a high wear area such as seat, it can crack within a month.

the only way to recolour leather properly is to use one of the proper kits where you rub off the sealant and the colour coats and then recolour and reseal it.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club has a working relationship with Furniture Clinic who can provide kits that do an a excellent job. See here:

This is great! I have been looking for AFW dye!

What are you doing about sealing? I imagine a good sealer should make this last for a while. I am searching for a matte sealer. There is a link in a recent post I have regarding this. I have to contact them about getting such a thing. I would rather re dye than have shiny interior... Hopefully I can find a satin or matte sealer. ...I am waiting to hear back from the contact in the link in my recent post. Will update.

Found the link and its actually quite expensive. 65ml x 4 is about $130. Required for just the two front seats... too good to be true. It says in the fine print the 65ml bottle is good for coloring steering wheels. Also they have a gloss enhancer? opposite of what I am looking for.

Liquid Leather Scuff Master Leather Dye Jaguar Barley afw 1980's 1990'S | eBay

this looks more promising. About $100 for 500ml, and they have matte, satin, and gloss options!:
