Hi Everyone
I'm in the process of doing some research for my Dad to find out more about his car, he's had it for about 20 years now and is thinking about selling it. He hardly ever drives it and my mother doesn't like it she says it too low and difficult to get in/out of.
It's a '95 XJS V12 Convertible and has 68000 Kms (42500 miles) original, never been damaged and always been stored inside. It does need a good polish which I'll do sometime in the near future, top is original and in perfect condition, interior nearly perfect but does have a little wear on the drivers seat.
I have been looking around online but there isn't a lot of information that I've been able to find as far as production numbers of this model, I was thinking about emailing Jaguar and seeing if they can find any information.
If anyone has any info they'd care to pass along I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Stewie,
Nice car! There's lots of books and info out there which detail production numbers, specs etc etc. Just drop me a PM and let me know what you need.
The spec on your car is "relatively" unusual. There was a change at VIN 194774 in April 1994 which then lasted through until they called all XJS "Celebration at VIN 221855 in May 1995. There were very slight spec changes at that point. Your car is built somewhere between these two points. If you want to send the last 6 of the VIN, I'll tell you when it was built.

Stewie, from brief look at pictures your father's car is in good condition.
XJ-S was introduced in 1975, first version was 5.3V12 coupe.
Manual gearbox option discontinued in 1979.
1981 saw introduction of HE version of V12.
1983 saw introduction of 3.6L six cylinder version.
1988 saw introduction of V12 convertible.
1991 saw introduction of facelift models (different rear is most visible difference)
1992 saw introduction of 4.0 six cylinder replacing 3.6
1993 saw final facelift introduced, with V12 becoming 6.0L with 4 speed auto.
End of 1995 saw final V12 produced.
Total production 115,330 for all model variants 1975 to 1996
1995 total XJS produced 4884
1995 XJS 6.0 coupe total 59
1995 XJS 6.0 convertible total 11
Many people including myself believe that final models post 1993 facelift were the best 0f V12 with convertible usually having price premium as more desirable than coupe.
Jaguar were owned by Ford at this time and they invested heavily in improving quality control and better corrosion proofing during final years of production.
42000 miles is quite low, if your father has full service history that would tend to increase its value to some prospective buyers.

Dig the wires and the gold badge coupled with the blue (not big on that pinstripe though).
The phone slot in the center console is worth a laugh.
These cars are a bit hard to get a number on since the latter cars with low miles are the ones that sell as collectors cars. If you check out somewhere like ebay, check the SOLD listings instead of current listings to see what comps have sold for.

Stewie,
Just to add to Paul_59 summary, the V12 was produced through to April 96, albeit in very limited numbers. There was a significant change in the facelift cars at April 94, when the AJ16 4 litre engine was introduced, after which your car was produced. Apart from the Celebration cars, these are the best spec cars (IMO) with the revised interior, seats, mirrors, twin airbags etc Another facelift change at October 94 (VIN 198335) when vented rear brakes were introduced. Your car is either an April 94-Oct 94 car or an Oct 94 - May 95 car. Those replacement Dayton wheels don't do it for me, but are popular in the US it seems.
Cheers
Paul

I've never seen a Centre Cam Cover like that one before, which looks very Aston Martin 'esk'
Are they still available because I would love one of those!
A very easy way to 'Bling' up the Engine.

Thanks for the info guys, the last 6 of the VIN is 198929, I don't believe he has a service history on it as all the maintenance has been done by him with very few repairs necessary. I'm not sure if the wheels are Dayton or not, he's had them on there for years and I do know that he were ordered from the UK and at the time they were quite expensive, I know he still has the original aluminum ones in the boxes that the wire ones came in.
I'll take a look on ebay and see if I can get any values, but I'm sure it's like anything and it's whatever a buyer is willing to pay.
I'd like to buy it myself, but I'm in a Jeep phase right now and have 3 of them and would have nowhere to keep it.

Stewie....
Nice buy....that is certainly the best XJS produced. Jag got it right in the end.
In addition to it being a 6.0 with a 4 speed there is another more subtle feature that makes that car special.... Conventional Vacuum assist brakes with ATE anti-lock system. This system is incredibly simple and reliable and offers excellent performance and brake feel.

The can cover is black plastic, not very nice up close.
Fitted to my 1993 model when bought, now in garage as I prefer look without

The plastic cover which tidies up the injection pipes etc is very desirable and NLA for some years now. The silver plastic painted stripes wear off and it's a bit of a pain to repaint them so all the good spares got bought up. You need to find one from a Jaguar (not JaguarSport) 6 litre. Same cover was fitted to X300 and XJ40 6 litre engines.

Plastic or not, it certainly looks the Business in that photo and I would really love the chance just to find out how much I don't like it. (Lol)

as the other Paul (pjts) stated they were black and silver plastic, fitted to later model V12, XJS and XJ12 saloon (sedan)
