As said, extra air from one or more sources = high idle. Not mentioned,
I don't think. Worn throttle butterfly bushes.

And, advanced timing. How & why depends on the ignition system.

My critters idle nicely at 500 RPM. Knock on wood, enough tasks at hand...

Well, I first thought it was the Idle Air Control Valve or the throttle position sensor. I cleaned out the throttle body the MAF sensor and put in a new air cleaner. After doing all that, it still wanted to Idle High. The last thing I did, was go to AutoZone and bought a can of Gummout Expert Injector Cleaner, filled up the car with fresh gas and added the cleaner, the car is doing a lot better now since I put the Gummout in the tank, the rpm's are coming down as I drive the car, almost where it's supposed to be, I think it will probably be back to where it's supposed tlo be in about another week if not sooner. After sitting on the dealership lot for a long time everything gummed up. Hope this helps someone out there. Happy Motoring

Well, I spoke to soon..after I shut the engine off..I can restart and the rpm will automatically go to 1500 - 2000 and stay there, if I try to press on the accellerator it goes even higher, but doesn't come down, have to shutoff the engine, then wait til it gets cold again, then when I start it up goes to about 1300 then come down as the engine warms up, then I can drive normally until I shutoff the engine, while it warm. Then if I restart it while it's still hot it will go automatically to 1500 to 2000 RPM again. It just will not stay down when it warmed up. Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to take it to a shop that has a computer with jaguar specific software. Oftentimes it's a WDS or IDS, but if you can find a PDU that would work best.

You can comtinue to throw money and parts at it, I can tell you, the base idle settings need to be reset. You can only get that done with and expensive device with specialized software.

Find a Jag dealer or a shop that specializes in dealing with Jags and you should be fixed up for about $150 or so.
