Default oil leak behind drivers seat xjs conv 1996

I was wondering if anyone could help me
I have a leak from the bottom of the car
near or behind the driver door, USA, so left hand side around the wheel well
I have looked under as much as I can and it seem to come from a joint where the suspensions are
I will attached 2 pic
I am assuming some bushing need replacing
and assuming this is some brake fluid?
please help
ab

the color of the fluid is clear, so I am guessing it is brake fluid

You sure it isn't fluid from the top?

If it was brake fluid all of the paint and undercoating would have peeled off.

ab,

Be careful to check this urgently as those are your fuel flow and return pipes that are running there. Is it petrol that's leaking?

By the way, it's great to see such a good condition underside for the radius arm mount! I'm guessing this is a very low-mileage car!

I am completely unfamiliar with the convertible system in the XJS. You need to locate the hoses, pump, etc and inspect them until you find what is leaking.

I can only guess that it is behind the rear panel, I don't think it is in the trunk because the convertible trunks I have seen have the same panels. Hopefully someone can chime in that knows more about the convertibles.

You could always remove the panels behind the seats and the panels in the trunk to look around for access. That's what I would end up doing.

Yes, the convertible pump is in the boot above the battery.

It's not impossible, but i would still think it unlikely that hydraulic hood fluid would get from the left hand ram (the pump is on the right) to the left radius arm which is under the body. I guess it could perhaps work its way down and out? It's not common for the rams to leak.

If you haven't got Jaguar's official parts and service manual, I'd very strongly suggest that you buy it if you're going to run an XJS.

Good luck

jag_xjs_1996,

Jaguar produced a number of DVDs covering the differing XJS variations. However, these are not fully compatible with Mac operating systems so be aware. If you buy one of these, the one you want for your car is Jaguar part number JHM1143. This is the one shown in that link you posted but seems very, very expensive at $140! They are only about £25 from Jaguar's Heritage division although I THINK that JHM 1143 is out of stock at present. See here and try contacting them by phone and ask:

Jaguar Heritage. Technical Publication DVDs

Recently, they've released a new DVD which covers all variants of XJS and has much additional material. This is more expensive but still only £50. See here:

Jaguar Heritage. DVD's

Hope that helps

Paul
