Rear Badges

paulyling, If the Jaguar dealers are saying they can't get them (The XJS one), they are just being lazy. All they have to do is call it up on their parts system and order it! If they still won't do it, just order it online from Jaguar Heritage for delivery to your local dealer for collection. Dealers...*******s! Paul

Blue Goose
remove the badges with care and send them to the Sydney based chrome platers that do chrome plating on plastic with great results. The same firm will also re-plate the grille and other external plastic parts.
the end result is that you will have genuine chromed badges and not the original painted ones offered on Ebay. Cost will be about the same.
contact details here Chrome Plating and Metal Polishing | The Chrome Factory
hope this helps

Well, in lieu of ordering badges I tried the silver leaf sheets ( thanks for the tip!)
I liked the option also about sending it away to get chrome plated but I need to have her looking good for this coming Sunday
( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...-136188/page4/ ) and couldnt risk not getting them back in time.
Turned out ok. Looks alright from afar, looks a little tacky close up due to my lack of skill. Very brittle stuff. I can see it would turn out alright if you were pretty skilled at it. Had to re do them about 10000 times, but the photos were my final effort.
Anyways it will do until I can get my chrome badges
Heres the pics

I have used "The Chrome Factory" Chrome Plating and Metal Polishing | The Chrome Factory before when preparing a bike for the Laverda Concours a few years ago. Great results.
They did most of the chrome on the bike below. It picked up a 3rd place.

Sweet thanks mate
Im not sure where i stand with the bloke at Jag Daim. I placed an order with them to get them made up by their third party contact but it has been like 4 months. I rang a few weeks ago and the bloke says his contact still hasn't gotten around to it....i think the ship has sailed. Haven't put a deposit down or anything so yeah, after Euro day might take em off and do that.

Heh guys. Gonna take my badges off today and send them in before I go back to work.
Is there any easy way to get these badges off without snapping them?
From what I can gather it is just adhesive stuck to the body work and two holes going through the body for alignment. Is that correct?
Just dont wanna snap em getting them off.

Whew! Just got them off! Pried them off with my fingers. I am surprised they even stayed on there in the first place!
Well gonna send em off in the mail today. Spoke to the bloke from the Chrome Warehouse. He reckons around $100 in total for both. (approximate)
Some new bling for the Blue Goose to wear when I get back from work in 4 weeks
Ok and so what are your best recommendations to use to stick back on with?

Automotive Tape 3M Acrylic Plus Double Sided Attachment Tape OEM 3M part # 3M 06384 (Listed by Mystarsound.com): Auto Double Sided Tape: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
And this goes without saying, but I would use some rubbing alcohol and elbow grease to clean up the old adhesive residue before re-applying.

my car must have come from a different planet(or something)!
it came over in 1986 from Kent England, papers with it.
NO rear badges except the one pictured, it is cast metal with porcelain/glass Union Jack on it and it is screwed on with SS screws.
also the hood(bonnet) had some stickon decals that said AMT, about 4" high, right in the middle of hood, anybody have any ideas on that?

Well, unless I've failed to read all entries correctly, I'm kind of confused by this thread. About a year ago I changed all the rear emblems on my '94. I found a variety on eBay at really reasonable prices and I see that this has not changed at all, i.e. they're still available on eBay. --- Give these a try:

Hope this is what Paulyling was looking for.

A preHE have 4 seperate badges on the right hand side of the rear number plate X, J, dash and S. Only with the HE did they become a one piece plastic badge. Early HE cars still had the XJ-S on the right and HE on the left which didn't seem to read correctly so they quickly swapped it over.

Decided to take a stab at putting a timeline together. I'm sure someone will find an omission or error, so please feel free to comment/point out any issues. I'm only focusing on boot badges. Someone else care to tackle the bonnet? Note: This guide was done from the perspective of a LHD car, so "driver side" is referring to the left, passenger side to the right. Here it goes:
1975-1981 5.3L Pre-H.E. Coupes: 4-part "XJ-S" Badge. The "X", "J", "-", and "S" were 4 individual metal/chrome pieces applied to the passenger side of the boot. The driver side carried no badging.
1982-1986: 5.3L H.E. Coupes. With the introduction of the H.E. cars in 1982, the "XJ-S" badge became a 1-piece silver-colored plastic piece and a matching silver-plastic "H.E." one-piece badge was added. As jag_sticker noted above, early 1982 cars kept the "XJ-S" badge on the passenger side, like the pre-H.E. cars, adding the "H.E" badge to the driver side. Since this read backwards, the order was flipped for later 1982 cars until 1986. "XJ-S" would remain on the driver side until 1992, when it returns to the passenger side following the facelift and drops the hyphen.
1987-1991: 5.3L H.E Coupes. Beginning in 1987, the "H.E" badge was dropped in favor of a "V12" badge. The "XJ-S" badge was located on the driver side, and the "V12" badge located on the passenger side.
1983-1991: 3.6L Coupes. Non-U.S. Market. With the new 3.6L being introduced, a "3.6" badge was used in place of either the "H.E." or "V12" badging on the passenger side. The "XJ-S" badge remained on the driver side.
1983-1988: 3.6L Cabriolets. On the driver side, the "XJ-S" badge was replaced with an “XJ-SC” badge, with “C” denoting “Cabriolet,” of course. The Cabriolet was introduced with only the 3.6 for 1983-84, so therefore the passenger side was fitted with the “3.6” badge for all 1983/1984 Cabriolets. For 1985-1988 Cabriolets, the “3.6” badge continued to be used for cars fitted with the AJ6.
1985-1988: 5.3L H.E. Cabriolets. On the driver side, the "XJ-S" badge was replaced with an “XJ-SC” badge, with “C” denoting “Cabriolet,” just as with the 3.6L cars. With the addition of the 5.3L for 1985, the “H.E” badge was used for 1985/1986 cars fitted with the 5.3L. For the last 2 years of the Cabriolet, 1987 and 1988, the “H.E” badge was dropped in favor of the “V12” badge for 5.3L cars, as it was with the Coupes.
1988-1991: 5.3L H.E. Convertibles. Unlike the Cabriolet, the Convertible never received a unique “XJ-S” badge, and thus used the same one as the Coupe, on the driver side. The passenger side featured only the “V12” badge, as the 3.6L was never offered in the Convertible. It continued to be offered in the Coupe, in some markets, until 1991.
1986-1988: 5.3L Hess & Eisenhardt Convertibles. U.S Only. Not to be confused with the H.E standing for High Efficiency on the 5.3L, the H&E Convertibles are fitted with the same badging on the boot as the Coupe, but featured unique, grey oval “Hess & Eisenhardt” badging on the front quarter panels.
1988-1989: 5.3L XJR-S Coupes. Non-U.S. Market. Pre-facelift XJR-S coupes featured a unique XJS badge on the driver side- “XJR-s,” where the “s” was done in sub-script. The coloring and font was the same as with the standard XJS badge. The passenger side featured the standard “V12” badge used on other cars. Some very early 1988 cars did not feature any differentiating badging from the standard 5.3L XJS.
1989-1991: 6.0L XJR-S Coupes. Non-U.S. Market. Note that these 6.0L XJR-S cars used a TWR modified version of the 5.3L, not the 6.0L that would be offered across the XJS line for 1994-1996. The badging for these cars was again unique, featuring a black rectangular badge with a silver border and silver “XJR-s” lettering, with the “s” still in sub-script, on the driver side. The passenger side featured a badge of the same design, but with text reading “6.0 litre.”
1990: 5.3L Rouge Collection Coupe. U.S. Only. The Rouge model featured a gold-colored version of the standard “XJ-S” badge for the driver side. The passenger side featured a black rectangular badge with gold “Rouge Collection” script.
1990-1991: 5.3L Classic Collection Coupes and Convertibles. During 1991, both pre-facelift and facelift versions were available. Pre-facelift 1991 Coupes and Convertibles were branded the “Classic Collection,” and as such featured a rectangular black badge with gold “Class Collection” script on the passenger side. The driver side featured the standard silver “XJ-S” badge.
1991-1993 5.3L and 1994-1996 6.0L Coupes and Convertibles. The facelift brought revised badging for all cars, as the reconfigured taillights left only a narrow area on the boot lid for badging. The driver side now featured a chrome “Jaguar” badge in a smaller/narrower font. All V12 face-lift cars, 5.3L or 6.0L, featured both an “XJS” and a “V12” badge on the passenger side, in that order. Note that “XJS” lost the hyphen with the new badge design, which had been with the car all the way back to the pre-H.E. 1975 model.
1992-1993 XJR-S Coupes and Convertibles. It seems all facelift XJR-S cars came from the factory with their badging deleted for a cleaner look. If anyone can please confirm this, that would be appreciated.
1992-1996: 4.0L Coupes and Convertibles. The facelift badging for the 4.0L cars was much the same as it was for the V12 cars. The only difference was the deletion of the “V12,” leaving simply “Jaguar” on the driver side and “XJS” sans hyphen on the passenger side.
1995-1996: 4.0L and 6.0L Celebration Coupes and Convertibles. There was no unique exterior badging for the final run of the XJS, dubbed the “Celebration” model that I could find. However, I noticed some facelift cars had gold badging- perhaps an option with the Celebration cars? If anyone can please confirm this, that would be appreciated.
Since it is now 4AM, I will go back tomorrow and try to put photos together. Sorry this is long, but hopefully someone finds it interesting! And I apologize to anyone if I missed any models, or if there are errors, especially with non-US market cars- not my forte, but I learned a lot putting this together. Happy reading!
Coupes.
