We met in 2009. She was sitting abandoned in a field underneath a fruit tree. "Runs good, shows great!" said the ad......... I should have walked away...... but.......... It's a black V12 facelift convertible........ just what I'd always wanted.......... "It'll be ok" I said........ "I'll do a running restoration" She ran on approximately 7 cylinders. Once I got all of the plugs out I think I set a new record for "worst maintained XJS in history" as the car had no less than 4 separate makes of spark plug.
Since then we have done : Respray, complete interior re-trim and upgrade, headlinder, front and rear subframe/suspension, full coolant system restoration/mod, fuel tank, fuel pump. Completely insane from a financial perspective, but I will go to the grave with this car such is the level of addition it provides.

Nice
Mish, I've got serious envy man - your car's lines are so PURE without door guards and pinstripes - and those wheels are just icing on the cake.
Sarc, had no idea that your car started off as a basket case. what a complete transformation!
Where are the rest of the XJS owners? I posted my hoopty - let's see yours!

Got few more pics, mine started as pile of crap from local barn. $1500 in 1998 is what I paid. Obama refused to take it as cash for clunkers, so my wife made me an ultimatum to fix it, or junk it. Now it just sits in my warehouse, except for rare outing for lunch break.
P.S. l get lots of winks from cougar ladies

I have done the most work to the XJS and it has transformed a lot. The other cars I have owned past and present have been great fun, but I have not done that amount of work to any of them. I would describe my other efforts as tickering, whereas the XJS was kind of brain surgery.
I am really enjoying getting to know my "new" XJ40 and will post pics of it soon once I get a few things sorted and get proper wheels on it.
The DB9 is a great car and I have done all the mods I care to on that (Bluetooth, clear rear lights, updated heater controls). It hides its age very well as the DB9/S did not change very much even till this day, so it's not obvious when you see mine that it's 10 years old. I think it probably wins in the $ per wow factor, but the XJS still has it in terms of outright personal investment
@Mish
The ONLY good thing about my car was that it was rust free............ so I was at least excused the pain you had to go through with cutting out rot. Great job you did there for sure

No lip, but she cools perfectly fine, due to conversion to electric fans. I do need to purchase that damn lip, does anybody here have one for sale?
These are 2002 530i stock 17" wheels.
