Default Stolen Vehicle Alert: 1996 XJS Celebration Edition Convertible

Stolen Vehicle: If you see this Celebration Edition 1996 Jaguar XJS in Sapphire Blue Pearl with a matching top and Creme Leather Interior it was stolen from a friend of mine who lives near Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Note the aftermarket custom 18" polished chrome wheels. It also has a leaper on the hood and a spoiler on the back like a V12 car, but it's actually a 4.0L inline 6 if someone actually looks under the hood, does not have any V12 badges, and the leapers on the side are silver. It just underwent a restoration so the paint is also fresh. If you see it please contact the police.

(it looks a lot like my own Kirara shown in my profile pic but it's not, my wheels are stock and Kirara has never been re-painted, so please don't call the police on me )

I would circulate the VIN Chassis number to all body shops and On-line suppliers, including Jaguar dealerships.

In the UK they often ask for the Chassis Number when you are ordering spares, as whoever Stole the Car will almost certainly be making some alterations, including a possible Colour change to disguise the Vehicle.

Could it also be put on a register, so the Car is picked up when going in for an MOT or whatever you call it in the US, as the Chassis Number could be left unchanged.

Those very unusual Wheels She has could well Show up on ebay, so it could be worth keeping an eye out for those.

It may well be parted out so keep an eye on ebay and craigslist.
Even if they paint they still have to tag each year and will show up stolen, best bet it is parted out or in Mexico.
Good luck.

I find it so odd that somebody steals such a special beauty.
First, this is by far not a car that represents good parting out potential in the manner that a Toyota Camry or a Civic or a Ford truck would, so why would a pro thief bother with it?
Then, a person interested in a car like this is not the type who would acquire one in this fashion.

The car parts mrket doesn't justify wasting effort on a very low demand, not only brand, but model, as well. Just can't figure it out.

Chop shop, not likely. Part demand.

Mexico, yup or further south...

And, whoosh into a container and on he way to most any place on the planet. Mid east, Africa, or even Russsia....

Punk kids for a joy ride. if so, dumped in some condition somewhere reasonably nearby. Watchful cop might spot it, most not so much.

Default stolen Jaguar XJS

Hi, I am up north here across the border. I was searching the internet for stolen Jaguars because somebody tried to get into my 88 Jaguar sometime yesterday. They made a half inch cut in the rubber seal near the mirror on the driver's door to put a coat hanger or some other tool down to open the door. I notice after inspecting my car as to why the door could not be opened from the outside, but from inside only! This is not the first some son of a bitch has messed with my car!!! 5 years ago some a$$h+le messed with my car. Somebody tried to steal the front bumper and headlights off my car!!! I can't figure why, unless the own one and ned parts!! i will keep my eyes open. maybe Mexico is not the only destination. How often do you suppose these cars are stolen and put in a metal container to ship overseas?

I am in Alberta. 18 or 20 months ago somebody stole a guy's Jaguar XJS, and I think it was a Bentley they also stole from Calgary. Few mechanic's know how to work on these cars, so it might be advantageous to alert the local Jag mechanics. Where are these cars going? I have my Jaguar XJ-S registered with with XJ-S Data in the USA, with the VIN, and all the identifying colors, they keep track of the XJ-S's on the road. It would be a good idea to not only keep an eye on Craig's list and Kijiji, but alert people like Welsh Enterprises that the car has been stolen and ask them to keep an eye open for someone trying to sell it, and or is looking for parts for the car to change the identity of the car, much like money laundering. Welsh Enterprise is a legitimate salvage yard that specializes in used Jaguar parts. They might keep an eye open for somebody selling parts for the stolen Jag. Welsh Enterprises require the VIN of the car needing parts. I always have to provide my VIN when I order parts, this is a sure way that I am not a would be thief, and genuinely own the car I need parts for. Alert the Jag salvage yards across Canada and the USA, including the UK, and Australia. Since the fall of the Iron Curtin many Jaguars were in high demand and were being imported into Eastern Europe. Cars in Canada have to be registered every year, and require a Vehicle Inspection report if brought in from another province or the USA. Alert the vehicle registries across the USA and Canada to start with. No legitimate mechanic is going to risk his licence to ignore discovering a stolen car and giving out an Inspection Report for the government so the car can be registered and insured in Canada. If the car has not been found by now, it is likely it was put in a metal container and shipped off across the ocean!!

Were I to catch a perp stealing either of my cars, I'd more than likely
find myself in the hoosegow. The perps would know about it, if they survived.

Wow that does look like it, but I was of the understanding the police recovered his about a month after it was stolen (sorry, forgot to update the post). They found it sitting in a field unharmed save for a busted ignition lock, and almost out of gas, but otherwise ok.

That car on eBay matches it exactly though, other than the VIN number.

But to be sure will message him because that darn sure looks like his. Same wheels, same specs, everything.

OK, I was just looking through the pictures and I believe that IS Joe's car. It even has the floormats that I put in it with the blue stitching around the edges. The chance of a car the same year model, same custom paint, same wheels/tires, and same floormats.

I left him a message, hopefully he will call me back soon.

Can't the owner just go there with a set of keys park in front of the car and wait with a large crowbar?

It's odd Joe hasn't called me back to let me know one way or another. Maybe he sold it after he got it back.

I can say one thing though, the seller says it's a West-Coast car, but if it is Joe's car. Joe is in Arkansas, I'm in Arkansas (and I sold it to Joe), and I got it in Indianapolis, Indiana and it's never been on the west coast in it's life except on a road trip

If it looks and smells like the same car, and the seller says he bought it from "Joe," I wonder about the different VINs...

As suspected vandals just punched the lock. Had a "joy ride". Finished and dumped it. Not bad that he got it back at all. The next up thugs torch them. Meaness or just to "hide" any evidence.

We've had a rash of that stuff around here. Heretofore quite safe. But, lesser vehicles. A pair of trucks. Tools the object there...

I'd consider the "pull a relay" as a deterrent.

Yea, it's Joe's car. I just had the VIN Number wrong. SAJNX2747TC226434 was the VIN of Joe's, I just had it mixed up with a different blue one we once had. Apparently Joe sold it because of continuing problems, basically labeled it a "Jinxed" car. We talked to the seller and he's selling it for the same reason, which is odd that he has the lines;

HIS CAR HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY AND WELL MAINTAINED BY JAGUAR DEALER AND SPECIALISTS
AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN OWNED BY AN ADULT!
THIS CAR HAS NEVER SEEN ANY BAD WEATHER IN ITS LIFE
IT'S REALLY A WEST COAST CAR !

Uh, bull. That one section contains so many different lies that it's crazy. It came from northern Illinois and northern/middle Indiana before one of our guys brought it to Arkansas for a client who then changed their mind instead buying a '77 Lotus they fell in love with when they got here. Joe was just someone local who'd seen it in the paper and bought it originally planning on doing a 'vette engine conversion. It was only in Arkansas 2 years, not "in the south most of it's life" (something the seller claimed in question responses on eBay), and it's NEVER been on the west coast at all. Also wasn't dealer maintained most of it's life. A small local used car dealer (we're talkin' bargan basement discount lot here) in Indianapolis did most of the work on it from what we could tell, and a 19 year old owned it for awhile in Indianapolis before it got sold through an auction. It's also on it's FOURTH paint job. Has hit a deer, has hit a construction cut hole on the Indiana/Illinois state line highway in the driving rain hard enough to bend the A arm on the passenger side front while driving in a horrible storm. And has seen plenty of bad weather.

The guy in NY admits he's just trying to get rid of it because it's had one issue after another and he discovered Joe totally mis-represented it, even said that he should have walked away from it and flew back home himself when he flew to Arkansas to get it and Joe meet him at the Airport. So now he seems to figure it's fair-turn to do the same and get rid of it on someone else.

Wow, what a piece of work.

I feel for him, I don't agree with Joe mis-representing it (he's not one of our regular clients) but don't think that makes it OK for the current guy to also knowingly and intentionally mis-representing it. Joe knew all about it when he bought it but didn't matter (or he didn't care) because he was going to do a 'vette engine swap and put in an all new high performance suspension.

We had one of our regular clients (just had one of us fly to Florida for an E-Type two weeks ago which is the 3rd car we've flown out and brought back for him) interested in it but this morning after he heard a summary of the conversation with the seller from Saturday night he said he'd rather find a different car and have any custom work done himself. The seller on eBay CLAIMS he's now had everything fixed, but if he's had everything fixed then why is he selling it "because of all the issues", you don't fix everything getting a car finally perfect (according to him) and THEN decide to get rid of it because of the issues that you ALREADY fixed. That makes no sense. But then with all the lies in the auction description guess makes you wonder what else you'd expect.
