Hope there's a thread for this build!

Baxter, love the wheels on the XK8. Are they 19s? Wonder how they'd look on the XJS - probably too big.

Default Discovered a new problem and fixed it

To my surprise, the hoses that connect the manifold vacuum balance pipe were collapsing almost completely when the motor was revved up. Went to NAPA and purchased some heavy duty 1 inch hose and replaced the bad hose. I am always surprised at the problems I find.

Revved up then closing the throttle?

Yeah, I would replace them... they are not just for balance anymore they are also your startup high idle... and Idle...

Am I chuffed? Yes. Very!
Well done and congrats!
Is your signature a cropped version?
If so, could you post the full original? (Although you may have already done that and I'm not aware).

Thank you and cheers,

This was in San Luis Obisbo, home of parts supplier xks unlimited, but they were not open this time on Saturday. Managed to remove and replace with a length of straight hose, and have ordered a full set of hoses that the said son can collect from xks and we can replace all over the holidays. Might need extra holidays to do all. .
Once I finished with the replacement, and filled it, and tested it, it stopped raining. That was my sign that it was ok.
Well now removed and replaced the about 20 bits of rubber hose copper washers and 2 thermostats that make up the cooling system. Refilled and ran to temp & pressure and no apparent leaks.
Did change most of the clamps to constant tension bands, where i could. Left the main radiator hose clamps as spring loaded Norma.

Will go through a few more cycles before I declare success.

Just installed new headlight assemblies on my 1994 xjs convertible. I bought a new left side light from Welsh, and found a right light on Ebay that was advertised as "near perfect" and it was so fine that no one can tell which is the new one versus the salvaged one! And the best part is the seller priced it reasonably about the same as Welsh charged for the left light.

Default fuel sender

Picked up new fuel sender unit. i don't understand why the Jag Factory repair Manual says you have to remove the fuel tank to install a new sender unit, when it is clearly visible and accessible on the top of the tank? Of course, disconnecting and even removing the battery is my first chore.

You don't have to remove the tank. Just remove as much gas as possible, so the gas level is below the sender. remove the spare tire. Remove the sender.

I've owned my 95 XJS for 2 years now, it's my daily driver in the summer but gets put away for the winter. It seemed to be running a little warm last fall (just over the middle on the temp gauge).

My guess was the radiator was possibly junked up with aluminum salts -- and the plan was to remove the radiator and take it to get re-cored or rodded out. Seemed like a nice weekend project as it warmed up a bit outside today.

No problem getting the bonnet and the radiator top cover removed.

Here is what i found -- 22 years of dustballs matted about 1/2" thick. Blew it all out, and put everything back together -- let's see if that's all it needed -- i won't find out until april when they stop salting the roads!

Default Half a Tank of Petrol going nowhere!

With my XJS in Storage for the Winter, not that we had a real Winter this time around, I filled her right up with Petrol/Gas before I put her away.

Then Started her up every couple of Weeks, just to make sure that She would be ready to go back on the road on March 1st.

Having just checked the Fuel gauge, just doing that has so far used a half a Tank of Petrol going nowhere, so this year it might be better to Tax her all year round.

what does Petrol/Gas cost you over there? ... it is down to 2.06 a gallon for 93 octane here...

Hi Jonathan

Since She has been off the road for 6 months during her Winter layup, I'm a bit out of touch with current Petrol/Gas prices.

I use Tesco Momentum 99 Octane which I 'Think' is around £6 per Gallon

So an 18 Gallon Fill up would be around £108

Where even just 'Tripping' can easily cost around £40 per day.

Todays purchases...
Alloy Gear shift - C2P9343
New leather gaiter
Number plates and finally - annoyingly, new wheel nuts.
