In my battle with oil leaks replaced valve cover gasket - easiest job ever on my engine!
What scared me the most is how easy it was to crack the old gasket, feels like if I dropped it on the floor it would shatter into pieces. Makes me think about all other old gaskets that are still there.
Here is the pic of the engine with cover off, lot of oil in there!

Justjags did a good job of getting a replacement when their manufacturer let them down.
Equally exciting, just unwrapped an oxblood leather, swivel and recline chair for the boat; £100 off Ebay including £35 courier, looks brand new.
That will go nicely with the existing oxblood Chesterfield and matching ottoman stool found in an antique shop.
It'll be a proper man-cave now; have to get a pipe to puff on whilst quaffing port and failing to do the Times crossword.
For all Delanaire Mark II cars (pre about 1987 I think). I removed the OEM aircon amplifier and replaced it with a new digital one (looks like a 12 bore shotgun cartridge, only white). This is now available new from David Manners, but used to be made by some people on Oz, who stopped for some reason. The difference is amazing, aircon much more responsive, better control, absolutely superb. Highly recommended.

This is the OEM part (2 in the diagram): Part no. C45402 | Air conditioning amplifier parts from Jaguar Classic Parts UK
You take off the LHS footwell vent on the gearbox tunnel side, then undo the rearmost end of the relay (part 3 in the diagram) and this enables you to pull the amp from its clip under the main body of the aircon unit. The OEM unit's multiplug and earth wire are a direct swap for the new unit that looks like this:
I bought mine last year from Manners and have only just got around to fitting it. Part number is C45402, I cannot find it on their website either, but if you 'phone or email David Manners they will be able to tell you if they still have stock. I expect they do, but have just been pathetic about their website including it.

Whatever garage is meant to be looking after your car, I suggest you change it! Fuel smells in the boot after a tank job, and all this other grief you are getting, got to be the fault of the garage.

I removed the aircon today... Need to get that V colder and protect it from future heat problems. At the same time I removed a few parts for an upcoming project: making the Iron Lady keep her oil inside!
please check this for holes ... I saw this kind of rust on mine and they were rusted through (underneath the rubber...) I fixed them... painted them...
great place for steam to weep out and reduce the amount of coolant with out a trace of dripping on the driveway! found my holes by prodigiously overfilling my system :-)

Carried on removing parts to get to the front of the engine. Radiators are out and the bonnet removed. Makes life a lot easier. Whilst I am in that area, I'm redoing the water pump. The pipes show, that coolant has reacted with each other and caused the fluid to crystalize. So I need to flush the engine a bit...
Waterpump removal is a pig... Whoever thought it was good to place it in such a position and in that size!? The AJ-V8 only needs 5 bolts to hold the water pump in place... And access is easier!
The job is rather hard and awkward but to be honest, it is fun!
Over the weekend, my son and I replaced the crapped out old-style starter on SpeedDemon (my '88), with a spare gear reduction starter. We also replaced the rear shocks and springs while we were under the car.
The original starter crapped ouut on my son Wednesday night, forcing him to call me for help. After running diagnostics on the starter circuit, we determined that the starter was bad, and we had to call a tow truck to get the car home.
I bought the car for $1,800 on ebay, from a guy in Maine 8-1/2 years ago. In that time, either my son, or, I have driven the car 6-7 days per week, for a total of 150-200 miles per week--every week. This is the first time the car has ever stranded one of us. That's a great testimony for any 28 year old car, and it blows a huge hole in the myth that Jags are unreliable.
Inspired by the "Wheeler Dealers" XJS episode, I pulled out the transmission mount (gearbox mount) and cleaned it up. (Mine's a '94 4.0 automatic coupe.)
My pre-purchase inspector had said the trans mount was "broken". Took it apart, and aside from being clogged with junk, the springs were in good shape (they're also like $30-$50 each, so I'm happy I didn't have to replace them). Only one of the rubber "spring seats" was bad. But I found a whole set on eBay and replaced all the rubber pieces.
