When did you buy you Jag, what type, when, how much?

Bought mine14 months ago, unseen, on line, from a local auction house. Got pics up & history said 2 owners , 12 months MOT test Cert. 2 owners , 48.000 miles . I thought , not bad for a 02 reg Jag. I put in an on line commission bid . Internet said Trade price should be £1100----£ 1600.00 , so I bid £1400.00. I drove down on morning of bidding & realised , when bidding finished that I had bought myself a Jag . I sold my 08 Peugeot back to the trade ( lost some money ) & been driving X type ever since -----may even keep it another year yet !!

1992 XJS british racing green with chrome spoke dayton wheels. It had done 107000 kms at time of purchase, now its around 115000kms. She cost me 5000 pounds sterling from a dealership in Wales. Structurally she is in top condition but the usual XJS niggles are presenting themselves , she will be getting a good seeing later in the year when i have the time to look under her skirt.
In the meantime i shall trawl this forum for mucho info .

First one was a '95 XJS with the 6.0L V-12 and I got it for 1600 USD. Trans was locked into "Limp Mode". Spent 1800 having it rebuilt. Trans was still in limp mode. One of 7 sets of relay's somewhere in the car had an issue. Transmission shop could hook the trans into their computer and it would run through all the gears flawlessly, but when they hooked it into the car, nothing. And the OBD wouldn't connect to the computer either to tell where the issue was.
This week, hopefully Wednesday or Thursday I will be bringing home Jag #2. 1989 XJS, pearl white, ten leather interior and the only thing I have found wrong with it is the drivers door lock has been drilled out, the gas cap lock is missing and the trunk lock had been drilled out. This one cost me 3500 USD. But it's pre-Ford and was my first dream car right down to the year and color.

i bought mine in march of 2012 for $3,500
it was exactly what i wanted minus the color. V12 (that admittedly didnt run quite right) , racing seats, Nardi wood and brass steering wheel, aftermarket wheels (which im currently regretting), killer custom exhaust, freshly dyed two tone interior, well taken care of, garage kept, superb.
plan was to drive it home, tune it up and get it on the road. overheated on the way home and kicked a cam chain. its doom was sealed.
now its all stripped out with a blown 6 and makes 8psi boost in its current state.

I applaud your pragmatism, however, your current power plant sounds totally Awesome!

Ya see it was like this:
Early August 2013, our daily driver, 2001 Ford Windstar PO$, The Wart (about 12 million miles on), had begun giving trouble with the transmission (a known weakness) and he became adamant he was NOT going to sink any more money into it. I agreed. Household transportation procurement is his department so he began haunting Craig's List for a replacement with the following parameters: Rear drive, 4 doors.
After finding several derelicts and disgusting examples of automotive insanity, each of which was worse than what we had, and which I refused to be seen driving he called me in one day and said, "This is my all time favorite Dream Car! If I had my way THIS is what I'd buy!"
In truth, all I saw was a Black car (my favorite) with 4 doors. I said sort of off hand, "I'd drive that," and went back to what I was doing.
He called, made an appointment, we went to look. 1976 Xj6 S2, 350/700R4 conversion, 175 000 miles; complete restoration inside and out, S3 exterior trim, VDP interior. It was nothing short of Stunning! We were suspicious of a couple things (brand new Michelin tires, new battery) but were pretty sure they were minor.
As I said above, had it been up to me I wouldn't even have looked at something that old. But after seeing it, riding in it and driving it we fell in love with it. Asking price $7k (Outrageous!), but one never pays the asking, so husband offered $6k (way too much imo) and he took it.
Only then did he discover he doesn't fit behind the wheel so he can't drive it! Dang, it has to be MY car! Which also means, as primary driver I do maintenance and repairs. I'm OK with that!
Since it came under this roof September 20, 2013, I have found no fewer than 80 items either neglected, abused, broken, misaligned or missing that I have repaired, replaced, adjusted or modified to make work.
I spent a couple months in the wrecking yard stripping an '86 S3 of everything I could get that would fit mine. So far though, it's taken less than $800 (plus a LOT of First Shop work) to reach a state where I'm confident to drive her anywhere with the assurance of no nasty surprises.
We're bonded now.

I acquired my '93 XJS Coupe in diamond blue off of eBay out of Lexington, KY... a southern car. That was October of '03. I've had it 10 1/2 years now. It was the finest I could find, and it's still a serious looker. It had 53k miles then, I've put 34k miles on it, and it's up to almost 87k miles now. Other than pinion seal, it's been tremendous.
My winning bid was $10,800 at the time. It's still a stunner in that blue... women love it!

I bought my '94 4.0 convertible in February of '14, from Ebay, with a final price of $11k. Three Florida owners from new had racked up a total of 82k miles. Due to the weather it was April before I could pick up the car in Boca Raton and drive home to Virginia via Key West and Waco, Texas, a total of slightly more than 2000 miles. The car is totally reliable, pretty much a daily driver --weather permitting-- mileage is now 85,911. It is, without a doubt, the best all-around grand touring car I have ever owned, even when compared to my former DB6 and 250GTE. I'd add a picture, but having to look for codes to do so is just too much of a pain in the ***. Seems there should be some way to upload a picture from my lap top directly to the post, but if there is, it's not a simple click in the tool bar.

I bought my 1996 XJS 4.0 in July of 2010 with 26k miles for $18,500. Pretty much a cream puff California car - british racing green with tan interior with white piping - all original, came with original window tags, complete owners kit, etc...everything worked at the time. Tach is somewhat finicky now - about $285.00 to have it pulled and rebuilt so I'm holding off for a bit.
I've got 40k on it now 4 years later and have had to perform scheduled maintenance - brakes, tires (tires we old not worn out), 30k mile maintenance and a few minor items - rear seal replaced, had the solenoid / actuator for the center vent fan re-built so the AC would blow from all vents.
We mainly use it to run from San Francisco north to Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and south to points like the Central Coast, Monterey/Carmel / Big Sur. Not using it as a daily driver but probably could - runs great and it's a blast to drive up and down the coast.

1985 XJS , Signal Red 5.3 V-12
I purchased my 85 Jaguar XJS about seven months ago for $2600. I had to make some repairs to get it on the road. New tires, two thermostats, fan relay, new alternator, repaired passenger window, installed new radio (aftermarket), fuel tank sender, replaced battery, installed battery cutoff switch, and updated the dual coil to newer single coil. It came with Dayton wire wheels that were dirty beyond belief, but to my surprise cleaned up well. 102,000 miles. Some minor body rust. It could use a new paint job. I replaced some of the burl wood panels and installed an aftermarket temperature gauge in the dash.
If I am out with it, people will ask me about the car almost every day.
Best bargain of all time. I would buy another in a NY minute. Fun to drive.
Not as fast as the newer Mustangs and what not, but has high cool factor.

I bought my 1993 6.0L coupe (facelift) in October 2014 it had covered 77,000miles and had full service history with all previous MOT test and owners listed. I paid £10,000 asking price by part exchanged my three year old Nissan R35 GT-R.
I have now got 90,000 miles on and use as my daily driver , needed replacement relay for fuel injection ecu (36cu ) and new starter motor and battery, also have new headlining to be fitted. Air conditioning needs repairing, it was one of last R12 gassed systems with Sanden SD709 compressor that leaks, so needed either replacement compressor which I can't find new anywhere or I need to rebuild / service.
Loving every minute of driving my XJS and can't imagine every parting with it.
