airbag warning light
In the last couple of days the airbag warning light has come on intermittently. It will go on as I am driving. And then the next time i start the car it will be off. Anybody had this happen? If so, what was the diagnosis? I'd rather not have the airbag pop out while I'm driving.

Bad clockspring. Do a Search on this forum for CLOCK SPRING or CLOCKSPRING. This device is an electrical connector b/t the air bag on the steering wheel and the body harness which is a fixed in place item. An open circuit will give you what you have. New clocksprings cost about 2bills before installation.
Do a Search on the world wide web for clockspring. Most all newer cars have them for the same reason.
Park the car with wheels straight ahead. Start the car. NO airbag will be lit. Now drive fwd and turn hard left or hard right. Airbag comes on. Why? Clockspring is kaput. And or get on the hwy. Stop the car on the side of the road. Turn car off. Turn car back on and drive off in a straight line with little or no turn to the left or right. The airbag light will stay off til you make a turn. Clockspring is bad. Remove and replace same.
As in.......a wire in the clockspring done did broke and or is making an intermittent connection til you turn the steering wheel.

Brittania..........is the name of a young fellow on this forum, who I believe had this done to his car over a year ago. You might pm him??? I've never had it done to my car, although I have the same problem to some extent.
Or search for Britannia on this forum and add in air bag light????? Let us or at least me know how much it cost to have the job done. I might have it done in the future. Might not also. It bothers me not very much at all.

You might go to the XJ8L forum on this site????? I'm not trying to be cute writing that. This is the XK forum (XK150).
There is a list of those flashing codes on a thread I just read a while ago on another forum. I might try to find that, and by the way, it's downloadable from that thread.
But while your here.........If you go out to your car right now, and with the steering wheel more than less straight forward, and then turn the key on and start the engine, does the airbag light Stay on??????
If it stays on, then go drive the car. Does the airbag light come on after you make a significant turn of the wheel to the right or left??? If it does come on like that.....then come to a stop with the car and steering wheel pointed straight ahead. Restart the car. If the light stays off, then drive in a straight line with no significant turn of the steering wheel. If the airbag light does not come on again UNTIL you make a left or right turn of the steering wheel, then I'd suggest the clockspring is the culprit. Just my opinion and nothing more or less.
I own a '07 XK that has this problem and I'm sure it's the clockspring which I care not to replace or mess with in 102*F temperatures in Tx right now. I'm not a big airbag man myself. I wear the safety belt all the time (ticket cost well above 200 bucks for not doing so).
I'd be interested in your reply to this.
