Question Heated Seat Issue

Heated seats. Passenger seat minimal/tepid heat on high. Driver seat ZERO heat even on high setting. Just curious are the heated seats related in any way to the cars internal or external temps or are they independent ??

I believe are independent.

I would question if you were really getting any heat at all on the passenger side, or if you just "think" you feel a little. I've been using my heated seats and steering wheel for the last week or so and trust me, you KNOW when they are on! After initial warm up, I have to drop them to low to remain comfortable.

Check your fuses.

Vince. There is no question that there is heat just minimal. If it was a fuse there wouldn't be even a minimum. Could be a module or thermostat of some sort.

On my XK, the seats will darn near burn you. The steering wheel feels just right. On my '04 VDP, the seats would go decent warm at best and the steering wheel was on fire hot.

Taking it in tomorrow to diagnose the heating issue. Definitely not a fuse.

Also a slight hum/vibration after accelerating at low speeds and then taking foot of gas. Dealer initially diagnosed and replaced cat converter brackets. Mis diagnosis as sound still present.

Heated seat issue are the heating elements which need to be replaced. The hum/vibration sound is the differential which also needs replacement. Should be done Wednesday.

I kinda have to agree... I can see one heating pad going out, but three?

However they are controlled by the CJB (Central Junction Box), which has been replaced via several other odd areas in our cars. Mine was because the dash steering wheel lights were out.
It (the CJB -item 4 in this diagram) seems to have its fingers in just about everything.

There was actually a Service Action issued in Feb 2010 for faulty diffs on some 2009 cars (XK, VIN B30552 – B30941) but in theory those should have been sorted already:

RE: Rear Differential Contamination

Dear Colleagues

A limited number of XF, XK and XJ vehicles may have been manufactured away from process and in some cases, the rear differentials may have been supplied with excessive silicon carbide left in the units. Silicon carbide can cause premature wear on the differential pinion head and tail carrier bearings resulting in unacceptable differential noise and drive line vibration.

Action to be taken

Unsold vehicles must be repaired prior to hand-over of the vehicle for retail sale. This Service Action supersedes Update Prior to Sale Notice UPS 2608-2.

For those vehicles in the hands of the customer, you are requested to repair the vehicle at the first available opportunity.

Great research as I happen to be one of those affected VIN's. diff is being replaced today if the part arrives overnight.

Vince. I couldn't agree more. Especially in a Forida car!!! Where the heat function has not really been used.
While Jaguar seems easy to please I find IMHO they misdiagnose quite often. They will replace the heating elements today and my luck it will turn out to be the CJB!!!

So at present Jaguar can't figure out why the heated seats are malfunctioning. They ordered new heating elements but that did not resolve the issue. I have little confudence in them after numerous misdiagnosis.

So the issue is still not resolved and XK still at the dealer. The test plan indicated bad heat sensors and that the sensors are located within the heating elements. They ordered and replaced the elements but did not correct the problem.
Jaguar Tech Support instructed to replace the seat cushions as the sensors are included therein. They are waiting for the cushions to arrive today

Why is it that I don't have any confidence this will correct the issue??
Frustration continues
