Default puddle lights for XK's

Has anyone seen any XK's with the custom puddles lights that have the jag leaper logo that shines on the ground with door open? I saw an XF with them I was wondering if any XK's had them. They are very nice. E-bay sells them but install might be an issue.

It's an aftermarket and DIY install item.

I have them on my XKR. Easy to install and they look real sweet at night. Check out the puddle light thread.

I really enjoy them.

DGL, I just read your last post from the thread last year. Sorry if I steered you wrong! Glad it all worked out.

Question 2008 XKR Portfolio

I just bought a set on Ebay for $19.00, with free shipping. At that price I will put them in my hand and decide if I want to instal them. These claim to be 7 watt and MRCUSTOM claims 3 watt LED.

No worries, Muddydog.

I installed these on my sold 2011 XKR 175, and my current XKR. They look factory and do not look cheesy. Very easy to install. I bought a couple extra just in case they don't last; however, so far, so good, no problems.

Can you provide a link for others.....?

Found them.......not sure I would do it, but here's the link for others.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261376877015...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

BTW:

I have confirmed that these are made in USA at MrKustoms in house shop, so they will have the Cree brand LED inside. Cree is the leader in LED technology and bulbs in the USA. They are NOT from China, thus the slightly higher cost of $30.00 per set with free shipping from Chicago, IL.

Hope this helps others that may be looking for a set.

I like the idea of buying here in the US and CREE is the best of the best, but I don't like the idea of drilling a hole in the door to install them.

These are a direct fitment, replacing the factory puddle light, plug and play:

2pcs LED Car Door Laser Projector Logo Shadow Light Perfit for Jaguar XJ XKR | eBay

It might be worth asking the company in Chicago if they can do the same thing.

A far as drilling a hole, once I read this post and it raised my curiousity, I looked at my 2009 under door sill. It is plastic not metal, so drilling should be very easy as you are not penatrating any metal surfaces.

I see that the Vmax product (above) is NOT compatible with a 2012, 2011 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007 Jaguar XKR so for many owners it does no good.

Vmax is a creative idea and looks like an easier install than the other one mentioned here on the forum thread, but is not compatible with most Jaguar XK/XKR's as from their ad on ebay for proper fitment.

Additionally the Vmax are Chinese made.

This is the only mod on my car that cannot be 100% removed and returned to stock, because of the hole. But after some personal moral struggle with this I rationalized that the plastic could be patched if that were ever absolutely necessary. In reality, the install looks professional and is ONLY visible if you are laying on the ground anyway, so I am not bothered by any OCD regrets. It cannot be seen from any other angle.

It also came with a bit of the correct size, and I placed masking tape on the plastic before drilling to avoid marring the surface.

Whichever one you buy, make sure it is low profile. It has to fit between the sill and the bottom of the door. Not a lot of clearance there. Mine extends below the door by maybe 1-2mm and clears fine.

I have 2011 XK vert, how difficult is it to take off the door panels to do the install and are the wires easy to locate. I get a little worried about taking the panels off. I sure want to put them on.

Sounds like you do not have to remove door panels.

Just remove the current courtesy light which I understand just snaps out. Drill hole in plastic panel under door, run wires from projector tube, and hook wires to existing courtesy light wires. Slip in puddle lite tube into hole, secure, lock down, snap back in the Jaguar courtesy light....your done.

Sounds pretty easy.

There is another member who has installed it, and I assume the above are his instructions from what he wrote previously.

I am sure others have done this and perhaps they can confirm what I wrote.

Is there a difference between the 2013 & the rest puddle lights?

Not sure, as I didn't even go up to 2013MY to see if the Vmax were compatible with the Jag XKR.......

Someone else might know.

Default Mega Cool

They are dirt cheap ($20+- on eBay, free shipping) and can be easily installed by ANYONE in about 15 minutes (per door). The results are so cool that once you see them in action on your own Jag ... you'll admit that you would have happily paid $150 for them!Trust me.

Can you tell us how you connected the wiring.

I bought both types, for a total of $36.00 shipped. I just got the one that drilled in to the bottom and it works great. When I get the courtesy replacement light I will look and see which works best and install it. I don't think I like having it stick out of the side of the door the way the replacement light does. I don't mind drilling the hole because the car is aluminum and it won't rust. This is a picture of the light on my office floor.

Jim:

Was this photo from the one that goes into the drille hole or the courtsey light that has the projector built in?

Can you provide a link for the courtesy light with the built in projector?
I looked at the Vmax, but the chart stated it doesn't fit my 2009 XKR.

Thanks

Richard
