Yes...you don't have that neat retractable aerial on your car. But apart from that unhelpful comment, I cannot imagine why the AM does not work unless there is an issue with the hidden aerial connection?

My FM1 stopped working, in fact it plays am stations. .... I was told it was some module located in the boot by the nav dvd.

Sorry not much help but something to check...

Open the boot and pull out the right hand side vent as you look in. You'll now see a small module bolted to the inside boot panel, that's the AM/FM splitter. Check to see if the connections on it are ok and the fakra cables are still connected, this maybe the cause of the problem. If you have the electric aerial, water can get past the seal around the aerial and could damage that splitter.

the real question is "why are you listening to AM radio?"

When I'm in my area and driving I usually use AM radio to hear local news and various talk radio shows. When cruising it's usually FM but on low for just some background noise. I'll play CD's when looking for some nostalgia but on long drives 4-5 hr , I stick to FM.

Are you getting static or nothing?

Does the system allow you to select the AM band and the stations and you get (what)?

Are you getting any DTC's?

Some information on your system:

The MOST network if failed would impact both bands.

On all vehicles from 08MY, the AM/FM antenna is located in the rear spoiler. The antenna has a hardwire connection to the amplifier which is mounted on the inner Left-Hand (LH) side of the lift gate, behind the trim panel. The amplifier is held in place by a steel strap. The amplifier is connected to the integrated audio module, via the FM antenna signal splitter, by a coaxial cable.

Control signals from the integrated control panel (Your push button display) are relayed on the medium speed CAN (controller area network) bus to the information and entertainment module (which is located behind the touchscreen). The information and entertainment module relays the control signals to the rest of the audio system on the Media Orientated System Transport (MOST) ring.

The source button on your steering wheel allows you to cycle through CD/ AM/ FM etc....

So Antenna, amplifier, integrated audio module, steering wheel control and clock spring.

Hi Sean,

Last week I was getting lots of static, this week absolute silence. The FM and CD works fine. I don't know what a DTC is? Interestingly 2 colleagues at work also checked AM and get nothing, but other people i know are still receiving it.

Its a strange one indeed

OK well if friends are having the same problem than it appears to be tower transmission issues, not likely car related.

A DTC is a Diagnostic Trouble Code which would be thrown if you had issues with your systems.

If you attempt to switch media from say FM to AM using the steering wheel control and then also using the touch screen and you have the same problem in both instances, I'd call a local AM station and ask them if they're aware of a more global problem.

Do you have AM @ home or in another car?

Are you sure that the AM is not broadcasting in Digital now, perhaps the Wife's Golf has an HD receiver?

Is it me or is the report of losing AM radio equivalent to someone saying their 8 Track tape stopped working?

I was wondering the same Mark. Ozmag, from what I've been reading, Cambo is the veritable Mac Daddy of DAB and may have some insight to the loss of your AM Band. You might want to PM him to have him look at this thread.

Given that you have friends who also lost it at or near the same time, and they're not all driving Jags making this this worlds largest coincidence, I don't see how it could be vehicle related. But I'm still curious to know what you find out.

Ha, well you are THE MAN considering you had a record player in a car.

Enjoy that Eagles 8-track until it wears out!
