Cabin Filter - I nearly choked.

Cabin Filter - I nearly choked.
My XK is due a service in January and, as I was passing the dealer yesterday, called in for a set of filters.
I've run a lot of Jaguars over the last forty years and long ago ceased to be surprised at some of the parts prices but the Cabin Filter is in another league.
(click on the image to enlarge it)
Part Number C2P 2410 (first item)
List price of £45.78 ($75.15) or £53.80 ($88.31) with tax.
That's a mighty expensive piece of carbon coated cardboard and it's on Schedule B Service to be changed at every 24 Months or 20K Miles.

There is no need to spend a lot of money for a cabin filter. Amazon sells quite a few for the X150 (2007-up) at varying prices. Here are four; there are more. Search Amazon.com for Jaguar XK cabin filter.
One of the lowest priced carbon-type filters is from Top Deal for only $14.22 including free shipping. Here's the link: and photo:
Top Deal also sells a non-carbon filter for $13.07.
The Mahle activated carbon filter is $26.21. Here's the link: and photo:
The Beck Arnley cabin filter is $37.52 including shipping. Here's the link: and photo:
Easy, DIY installation. Interesting that the all look pretty much identical with 24 pleats.

P.S. I just ordered the el cheapo Top Deal carbon filter from Amazon for $14.22 and let you know what I think when I get it.

Nothing like as important as changing oil and air filters.
The worst that is likely to happen is restricted air flow to the A/C as it gets blocked. I removed mine to check when I first got the car and the housing had plenty of dead leaves and insects in the bottom.
The 'activated carbon' coating is a deodoriser which supposedly improves the cabin air quality.

What they dont tell you is that the "carbon" portion only works for about 3 monthes (or less) before it depletes its ability to absorb impurities... Unless you want to pull it and clean it every 3 months, you can save almost half the price ($30 here in the US) by installing a standard (non-carbon) filter from your local parts house.

Don't you consider aftermarket parts for items like this Graham?
Some huge savings to be made I'm sure and they're not ALL inferior quality either.
Liking the play on words too......initially I thought perhaps the old filter was done, full of leaves etc etc, worn out.
Looking for an update as to how you get on....

What caught my attention was the cabin filter is almost 4 times the cost of an oil filter and 3 times the cost of an air filter which seems disproportionate.
Of the four suggestions, the Beck Arnley 042-2131 (at $71.04 reduced to $33.52) has the important:
1. engineered to OE specifications to insure an accurate fit and proper air flow.
2. constructed from OE quality materials and filter media to properly maintain your vehicle.
This appears to be an exact match to OE spec and very good value.

As you know, I generally use my local Jaguar Dealer for parts but the unreasonable cost of this cabin filter set me off on a search to discover Jaguar's supplier.
There is no manufacturer's name on the package or the filter itself which is normal practice for Jaguar but, in compliance with EU Regulations on country of origin, it is stamped 'Made in Germany'.
It also bears the 'micronAir' logo:
This is the trademark of CORTECO, part of the Freudenberg Group in Germany.
A call confirmed they are the supplier to Jaguar and further provided their own part number for the cabin filter is CC1290.
Armed with this information, I was able to find a UK source at £29.90 ($48.91):

And a US source at $43.98:
07 2007 Jaguar XK Cabin Air Filter - Air Intake - Beck Arnley, Corteco, NPN, WIX - PartsGeek
Their Part Number is W0133-1784961 but is showing out of stock. They also supply the Beck Arnley (Part Number: 18987-05142621) which is in stock.

Mercedes has that covered.
In addition to a conventional cabin filter, many later model Mercedes have a console switch activated massive twin activated charcoal filter. Press a button and the magic happens in less than 5 seconds.
Works a treat on skunks and road kill also.
