Default Need value of barn find XK 140

Hello! I don't know a thing about old Jags. These two are for sale from an estate, they are taking bids. The seller does not have any info other than the pictures and knows they have not been started in many years. I would buy them if I can get them cheap. If I buy them and get them running again and clean them up what might they be worth? Pictures on the link below.Thanks.

Lucky you! Look forward to hearing how this all works out.
Lemmings would be my first guess...

Trouble is I don't think you will be able to get them cheap. These "barn finds" are sometimes fetching more than restored cars but for the life of me I can't understand why. An E-type sold in the UK last year for around $180,000 and I have never seen one in worse condition in many a year. The car had sat in a damp brick garage for 30 years and I couldn't see how any restoration could cost less than about the same sum given the garage that is doing the restoration. The S2 E-type coupe may not be too dear since it isn't the sought after earlier model, but the XK140 drop head is very fashionable and always the dearest of that range due to the veneered dash and the convenience of the fold back roof. Best of luck though.

The cars look tidy from the pics, but the long standing time means a lot of work is likely to be necessary to get them into service again. I can't comment on US values, but cars like this in the UK are fetching very large sums of money. Much depends on how much knowledge the sellers have of the marketplace. Is it a private sale or auction ? By "bids" I assume you mean sealed and then opened on bid evaluation day, with the highest bid getting the cars. I suggest you do some homework on the internet and buy a few classic car magazines to get the feel of things.

The XK140 is the rarest car, BTW. There are plenty of E-type coupes around, it is the convertible versions that fetch the money

Hard to tell from the pictures but barn find 140 dhcs are making GBP 30-40k in the UK. The E is a 2 + 2 which are the least popular here but against that the interior looks original and may be saveable. Probably 10 to 14k GBP for a LHD car here.

As another member mentioned, the dhc 140s are the most desirable version of the model although the ots is rarer.
