AC Cutting out at idle / Fans Running after Turning Car off
A few months ago, I had my 1998 Jag XK8 coupe in for repairs. We have owned the car since 2006 and consider ourselves very lucky that at 54000, it was our first major repair.
We replaced front wheel bearings and control arm bushings and five weeks, yes, five weeks later we got our ride back.
This week, we noted that at idle our AC cuts out completely. Once you're driving, the ice-cold AC returns. On Friday, I turned off the car in the driveway, took the key out and the electric fans kicked back on? And stayed on for almost one minute. It's never done that before. We took the car out a few times this weekend and the fans are staying on every time the car is turned off.
We checked coolant levels today and we have nice green antifreeze and the system is full to where the manual says it should be.
I can't help thinking these two issues are related. Could the water pump be going? I have no overheating issues nor any idiot lights displaying.

The fans staying on at shutoff is usually an overheat issue. It could have also been a faulty sensor. Has it returned ? was it a one time thing ? are the hood and fenders hotter then usual ? Is that green coolant correct > Jaguar supposed to be orange < whatevers that worth.
These are just my non professional suggestion. it can be a sticky t-stat or water pump

Continues to do it. On my ride to work today, the fans didn't kick on till about 15 minutes into the drive, then the same thing happened....turn the car off, fans turn off but then almost immediately turn back on.
Orange antifreeze is a first for me - always thought it was supposed to be green.
If it was a relay or sensor, would it show up when connected to a diagnostic?

Green will be ok, orange probably wasnt around in 99 anyhow (speculating there)
Those older xks go thru thermostats like crazy. I'd check that and the water pump. Most of the time, thermostat is the culprit.
Want to add I've heard in those older cars, the hoses will sometimes buckle themselves, causing poor circulation of the system. Just another thing to look for...week hoses.

I had orange in my 99 coupe. And it loved to suck down the upper hose. But all would go to normal when you burp the res tank. Finally got around to changing all hoses after I had the dealer flushed the system while they had the car in for a coolant flush I had them change the t-stat.
Never had the fan issue but comming on only after 15 minutes does sound normal and running after shut of seems normal also.
Can't comment about AC though.

They are junk-:)
They told me it was a "software adjusment" to keep the fan running for minutes after you turn the care off, that was on a rather routine check.
They have a major issue, mine is about to blow up, the engine that is and it is typically at lower speeds, I live in Houston you literally may have to turn it off at a stop, not fun in the summers here.
Vacuum issues sound interesting, but I am a Mechanical engineer that studied this stuff it is a crap design, think what changes, the vaccuum system, and so they need to have your fan run forever, mine was fine for 4+years then the software needed to be altered, th car may not be junk, but the dealers at least here may be... Software Upgrade, the cheap fix is clean the hell out of your radiator so you get the most cooling you can if you play with the vaccuum system which may be the root cause, it will cost a small fortune.

1 Minute of Fans Running would warrant a test of the Thermostat, IMHO.
