Hi Dodger,
You will need to turn the car off, start it again and then count how many times the light flashes before going solid. this equates to a flash code that will help us narrow the problem down.

There will be a set of flashes followed by a short pause followed by a second set of flashes. This is repeated 7 times before going solid. ie: 2 flashes, pause, 5 flashes, gives you a flash code of 25.

The airbag system has a fail-safe design. If it senses a serious fault that potentially could trigger the airbag to go off when it is not supposed to, it blows an internal fuse and permanently disables itself.

Dodger: Mine came on and stayed on. No flashes. It turned out to be a fuse in the left side fascia fuse panel. Look in the glove box manual for the correct fuse. I believe it was a 5 amp fuse. The airbag system still comes on at start up and reports back to itself.

P-rock, I've never heard of an xk having a clock spring issue...s-types (different wheel) mentioned a few in their threads.

Indeed. I know we saw a few XJ 4.2's with the clockspring being replaced, I think that is where I got that idea from.

4-5 (45) is not a legitimate code, please read post #3 again and then open the PDF in post #4 for the description of the fault. Perhaps you mean 2-2 (22), repeated 5 times?

Hi Dodger,
Sorry mate but that still doesn't ring any bells. Have a look through the attachment and see for yourself.

Hi Dodger,
Yes you are right, still doesn't make any sense. It can be difficult trying to identify the correct flash code whilst driving, so.

When you have the airbag light solid, pull over and turn the car car off.

Then restart. Wait until the airbag light starts to flash and count.

The first set of flashes will give you the first number followed by a short pause of about 1 second and then the second set of flashes for the second number. There will then be a longer pause of about 2-3 seconds before the process is repeated. It is important to get this right.

Sorry if this sounds like it is teaching you to suck eggs, I mean no offence, but we have to get it right in order to help diagnose the problem.

So, take a deep breath, count to 10 and start again.
