I've had the car for a week. All is going well......right? Drove the car this morning. Parked for about an hour. Started car up.....stalled. Seemed a little odd. Tried again, and seemed to start up fine and drove off. Few mins later, I noticed the amber engine light on the dash was lit up. Car was driving fine but pulled over and got the owner's manual out. Seems as though it's just a "warning" and needs attention...ok to drive. Turned off and back on a few times with no problems but light is still on. Drove to destination. Parked car for about an hour again and it stalled twice. Got it started and it drives fine (light still on). Any clue where to start? Does this seem like a major deal or what? Looks like I may be drivng my old BMW, until this is addressed.

Not too sure I can help you with this problem. There are some very knowledgeable people on here that can though. But, you need to help them out a little bit. First, put your year, make, model in your post or in your signature line. Do you just get the amber light or does it say anything on the dash? And lastly, if you plan on keeping this car and working on it yourself, you will need a diagnostic code reader, or at least access to one. Being able to read the trouble code is a big step in diagnosing what the problem is with your car. Hope this helps at least a little. Now, don't give up..........and go get those codes. Good luck
Thanks. I will update my profile so I'm more clear. I have the codes: Po300, 301, 302, 306 mis fire and p1316 and p1111. I had the codes cleared out and now all is fine. Starts up w/no problems. I did try an edit my initial posting...it's the engine light not transmission. Car is back to "normal" now.

They will be back, they always return until you find the problem. Multiple misfires is usually indicative of a growing air/vacuum leak, restrictions in the engine 'breathing' system, and a dirty mass air flow sensor (sometimes damaged/faulty).
Read this thread here for some good insight and help you diagnose.
I did run the BG-44K through the car about two weeks ago, and I haven't had the problem again, but I really haven't gotten into the run-stop-wait-run scenario that gave me the misfire, so the jury is still out.

I've got the dreaded P0300/P1316/Rest.Perf lights right now. I was just idling thru a parking lot looking for a space when the car started bucking and running on less than 8 cylinders. Might be bad gas. I put a shot of Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank and ran the car for a few miles and cleared the codes. The car actually ran perfectly for about a mile and then the Restricted Performance light came back on without the Check Engine light. Dropped it off at the shop; we'll see what they have to say.
Did the secondary timing chain tensioners take care of it? I have the exact same issue (P0300/P1316/Rest.Perf lights). Had several other codes too, did a tune up and that left me with JUST these codes. I just replaced the fuel and air filters, cleaned the TB and MAFS, new plugs, new coolant level sensor and a few other things I can't think of right now. I just got the car and planned on doing the tensioners and water pump once I got it up and running right but I didn't think they would actually cause some of these issues.
Replaced all tensioners, chains and guides. $2800. I examined all the worn parts. To replace only the secondary tensioners is probably not a good idea, as all the tensioners and guides were made of the same material and all were showing signs of cracking and imminent failure. I'm lucky I didn't ruin the engine.
