Default Bonnet (hood) liner replacement - any tips and tricks?

Like pretty much everyone else's experience the bonnet liner on my 2001 XKR has "melted" in several places where it has come into contact with hot engine parts - mainly the supercharger. Not a major issue but time for a new one. I've ordered a new OEM liner from David Manners and 20 new plastic retainers/rivets as I expect to FUBAR the original ones on removal.

Are there any words of wisdom from forum members who have done this and pitfalls to avoid? FWIW I am not planning to remove the bonnet in order to fit the liner.

Hello Steve, just completed that job on my XK8, should be the same fastenings.
I used a x head screwdriver and gently removed the plastic screw, it will come out about 3-4mm and then you can lever out the whole thing. I found that trying to completely remove the screw wasn't worth it. Fitting is easy, just push the fixing back in the hole and then the screw should just push in. When the screw is in the fixing it pushes the ends open thus securing it.
Good luck, took me 15-20 minutes to complete.

Thanks for that - most encouraging. I was wondering if the damping/soundproofing felt came away when the original liner was removed?

The XKR must be a different setup to the XK8 i'm afraid, I was refering to the soundproofing on its own.

I need to replace the liner in my XK8 also. Most of the little plastic caps are missing from the studs for the strut mounts and the studs have ripped up the liner that lays on them with the hood closed. Thats why they put those plastic covers on the studs. I tried using the silver metal duct tape but it wont stick to the liner. But then I also have to find something to cover the studs with so maybe some pieces of fuel line or vacuum line will be soft enough.
