Doors locked, boot locked cannot open

Doors locked, boot locked cannot open
Hi, first time post and a bit of a strange issue!
My father has an 1997 XKR coupe which we can't open, the doors and boot are locked.
We cannot open it with the key remotes or when the key is turned manually in the lock. We've replaced the batteries in the fob without any success.
The boot won't unlock either so cannot gain access to the battery etc.
Does anybody have any ideas what is going on?
Thanks, Mark

I'm not positive about this, so you might want to verify: There is a difference between the cut and programming of the "master" key, and that of the "valet" key, such that a valet does not have access to secured parts of the car. Although the boot lock is manually operated, the valet key will not open the boot, and with a dead battery, the programmed chip in the key won't allow you to unlock the door. On my XJ6, the black key is the master, and the green key is the valet.

ANY black master (or green valet) key will open the door. The 1997 DOES NOT need a key configured to the car BUT it only has to do with STARTING the engine, not opening doors or lids.
Programmed keys started MY 1998 here in the U.S.
Your car is NOT supercharged (XKR) unless someone did a 'home made' modification to the powertrain.
Sounds like the locks are seized from lack-of-use.

Sounds like a dead battery - BUT the boot lock is manual and can be opened with the key which will get you into sort out the battery. If it's not been used for a while it may just be stuck, Suggest lots of switch cleaner (I use Servisol not WD 40) sprayed into the key hole (in between the K & R on the boot badge) and leave it to soak - be gentle with the key - wiggle and twist as you really don't want to snap it off)

I am no expert but have had my XKR for a good few years and come across a few issues. In many cases advice on this forum has been invaluable.
If you are down this way drop in - you can't miss us - house backs onto the L&L with the "dragon" boat moored at the bottom of the garden.
Regards
Steve
