Exhaust Tone

Exhaust Tone
Hi All, as with many of you, I would love a little growl from the exhaust from my 4.0 Xk8.
One of our venders offers a straight pipe to remove the rear most resonator.
Took both rear resonators off today to test if this is the right sound. Not too impressed. The level of sound is fine, the tone is strange. The exhaust does just exit near the rear axle. The pipe extension to the rear bumper may change the tone a bit.
Anyone have positive results with this method? Thanks Rich

I had just the center muffler removed. It was ehhhhh. Did the Mina rear muffler delete...BOY IS IT LOUD when I get on it. I still have the two tiny before IRS mufflers. I say put the tailpipes on. IF you dont like the sound remove the two rear resonators before the IRS setup.
My next step is to remove those two mufflers and restrictive over the IRS pipe and add an x pipe type muffler where my original was removed. My current sound isnt all that bad just way too loud when I get on it. Im looking for less rasp

There are many, many threads on this subject with just as many options and mods.
I removed the two before axle boxes and got just a slightly deeper tone, added a Mina high flow air intake and now between the air intake sound and the exhaust it's just right when I punch it but very discreet under normal load.

I had the rear silencers removed on my xkr, you do get a bit of drone @ 2000 rpm but the change in sound makes you smile, my mums partner has a xk8 convertible and he had the same done, if anything his is louder. My advice is to keep your back boxes after you have it done so you can go back if you don't like it.

Turns out after a few miles diving with the rear most resonators removed, it is just the sound I was looking for. I know later model engines will re adjust itself ( on board computer) with air intake or I am sure exhaust restriction changes. My 2005 Sierra goes through this ritual every time I clean my K&N filter. After 50-60 miles the computer readjusts itself and goes back to running prior to the clean.
Thanks Rich

Can you post a video with the sound. So in summary what is your exhaust system comprised of now?

Hi Rezzz, sorry I am not able to post a video, I'm the guy who has a rotary dial on my cell phone.
U can hear an example on you tube;
The example is with the rear most mufflers and tailpipes removed.
At this point my exhaust exits just above the rear axle. I have orderd straight pipes and chrome exhaust tips from Mina .
I have decided I do like the sound. Just enough growl. I do have an interest in the under rear axle system. May be in the future. Rich

Graham, aren't you just sucking in hot air with that setup? why isn't it enclosed in a separate box?

Hi Greg, I too have a similar system to Graham, however as you stated I have a box which seals to the hood.
The systems, both exhaust rear/ rear muffler delete as well as air intake are from Mina .
The sealed air intake pulls air through the inner fender bringing cooler air in from outside.
The roar is light, but enough for me. When you step into it, the combo of exhaust and intake is great!
The roar is powerfull, means business and lets all know you are driving a machine...
While maintaining able sophistication not to offend my driving gloves.
