Default Front license plate mounting bracket

Hi there!

My 2000 XK8 came without a front license plate. While I'd like to keep it that way, the local authorities have other ideas.

There does not appear to be a license plate mounting bracket on the front of the car at this time. Where can I get one?

Any alternative ideas as to how to satisfy the authorities?

Thanks!

Michael

Hi Michael.. I purchased an absolute perfect license plate mount on eBay that cost
$7.94 and $3.69 for shipping total cost: $11.63. It works perfectly but you have to
drill 2 small holes in the middle of the grill "UP RIGHTS" to attach the holder and I
used the bolts that came with it to mount the license plate onto the purchased bracket.
eBay item# 321477463602 SELLER: Comerseo (angelsnewemail@gmail.com) called
JAGUAR LICENSE PLATE BRACKET. You can check it out later this month on the SJC trip to Chico

Welcome to the forum Michael,

Although you have been a member for some time, I see this is your first post.

Jaguar solved the problem by supplying a Number Plate Plinth (item 16) in black moulded plastic for the USA square style licence plates:

(click on the image to enlarge it)

Like all other permanent licence plate mounting options, the bumper has to be drilled.

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond to my question! At least I can now tell my wife that I am making "progress" on the search. She's the one who got the ticket for driving without a front license plate, and is not anxious to repeat the experience.

Thanks again!

Our '97 coupe never had a front license plate mounted when we bought it in 2012, although it spent all of it's life in states that required one. I got a warning ticket 2 weeks after buying it. I didn't care to push the subject with the authorities so I bought a cheap universal bracket and mounted it to the 2 vertical teeth in the grill as low as possible. I've seen many Euro plates mounted the same way.

I have a retractable front license plate bracket (Retractable Hide Away License Plate Frame Bracket Holder Mount Kit | eBay). This is a manual one; they make remote control versions of this that cost about $100 but don't waste your money on them. They break after 3 or 4 months.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to respond to my question.

I have purchased the appropriate bracket and my wife can now drive the car with a clear conscience.

Thanks again!

I've been driving without a front license plate on several cars for about 20 years in two states. I get a $15 ticket every once in a while, but I think it's worth it. The car looks way better without the front plate, and you don't get caught with speed cams that take a picture from the front!

I just purchased a 2002 XK8 and need a retractable front plate bracket. Could you give me information on the bracket you purchased, model number etc, and where you purchased it? Thanks, Ed
