Default Drive Won't Engage - Too Cold?

I've got an 05 XKR and I tried giving it a spin today while the winter sun was out and the roads were clear!

The Cat's gear level moved around smoothly, and appeared to engage Reverse and Neutral (the letters lit up), but once I tried going to Drive (and other gears in the J Gate) the car wouldn't move forward.

I can't recall if the letter D lights up when you're in drive, but I assume it would. I'm hoping that this is just an electrical issue or a fuse somewhere, but I'm also worried it could be something worse.

If anyone has ever encountered this before, I'd be eternally grateful for your advice. Thanks

There are two 8mm bolts that attach the transmission shift cable to the drivers side (USA) of the ZF 6HP26 transmission unit underneath the vehicle. These bolts often loosen up and can even fall out after years of driving vibration. When that happens, the vehicle will not move regardless of how much you operate the shift lever. Put your car up on jack stands, crawl underneath it with an 8mm box end wrench, find these two bolts, and tighten them up if they are still in place. If they are missing, you must replace them....

I have long made it a habit to snug up these two bolts any time I am underneath either of our Jaguars. Sometimes they remain tight, and sometimes they need a quarter-turn or so....

So update; I was fiddling around with the bolts, and also heard that it could be a trans fluid flush, and then the Engine Light/Restricted Performance came on. I don't have anything to run the codes (and honestly got frustrated) so I took it in. Turns out the gear select module is fried.

This sounds a bit weird to me, given that it was able to start, go into reverse, and, most importantly, drive after being warmed up. Thoughts?
