Default How do you wire the Bosch Intercooler Pump to work?

Apparently the wiring is different? I have no idea, but anyone who has upgraded to the 010 part, I could use some help with info for my mechanic....

Haven't seen this pump myself, but I take it it has only a + and - connector right?

Just make sure you wire the + and - correct, if switched the pump will turn but there will be almost no flow (was even an issue with early Rang Rover 4.2 cars, where it was wrong from the production...).

I ordered the pigtail connector with the Bosch "cobra" I/C pump which is Bosch part #
0 392 022 002. I took the new connector that fit the Bosch pump and spliced it to the old connector which I clipped off the old Hella pump. I didn't want to modify the wire/connector coming from the car's power supply just in case someone wanted to install the OEM Hella pump in the future. I ordered the new pigtail with the pump but you can order this seperately from Silicone Intakes Systems,Inc. I don't know if this pigtail will fit the Bosch 010 but it's probably worth a call---unfortunately I don't have their number off the top of my head.

Here is the Silicone Intakes link:
WPT717 Bosch Pump Harness

I didn't know about this off the shelf part when I got my 010 pump and, like Mike, I didn't want to modify the car side, so I cut the pigtail off of the Hella pump and soldered the connections to the Bosch.

I haven't hooked it up yet, but the connections are labeled on the pump as + and - so you can match up the wire harness on the plug.

Timely thread, I have a Bosch 0 392 022 010 pump here ready to go in the XJR next week, it didn't occur to me that the connector was different....

Hope silicone intakes can deliver quick!

EDIT

$20 shipping without guaranteed delivery...

Does anyone know the original Bosch part number for the connector to suit the 010?

Glad I could help. Does the Silicone Intake pigtail connector fit the 010 pump? I've got notes comparing the 010 to the 002 Bosch pump and can't remember why I went with the 002 since it had a little less flow rate than the 010. I did see in my notes that the 002 produced around 14% better flow rate than the OEM Hella pump. I do remember being concerned about the diameter of the pump since it was a little larger than the Hella. I had to remove the rubber isolating pads from the pump bracket to accommodate the Bosch 002. I would be curious to see how the 010 Bosch pump fits in the original retaining bracket.

Between them telling me it wouldn't work and me sending that link to them, they had already found it and already have it installed. So, that much is good news.

My indy shop doesn't really do mods and almost everything I've had them done are things they've never done before, but they always get the job done professionally and at fair prices. And it's always fun to see when the Concourse d'Elegance cars come in for service. They do anywhere from half a dozen to a dozen or more of them during that time period. They don't get a whole lot of internet reviews, but complaints are hard to find, so I know I'm not the only one happy with their service.

The 010 fits without the rubber pad like the 002 does. The bracket is a tight fit but it does go in there.

I took some pictures when I put it together and can post a few when I get home, including how I did the electrical connection (before knowing about the pigtail).

Took the pigtail from the Hella pump.

Cut the connector plastic to open it up and used some connector pins left over from the bluetooth install. Slipped the pins onto the pump connection and soldered them in place.

Shrink tubing over the connections so they can't short together.

Some electrical tape over the whole thing to keep dirt out and be a strain relief.

Better to put some rubber between the pump and bracket to lower the vibration sounds, although I can't tell how loud(/noticeable) it will be without.

Completely agree but its a tight space. Others with the 002 have said it isn't a problem so I thought I'd just give it a try.

Another option might be to put a rubber isolator between the bracket and the car and thread the screws throwing them.

Nice job, Charlie. I've never detected any vibration noise from my installation. The pump runs when the ignition is turned on and the motor not running so you could detect vibration noise pretty easily and I've put my hand on top of the pump just to make sure it wasn't vibrating in the clamp.

I ordered the connector from Silicone Intakes and it did not fit the Bosch 010 pump...

My mechanic said he would try to get the correct connector directly from Bosch, but I forgot to ask him if he got it or just hardwired it like the pics above.

Pump is in now anyhow. I was shocked to see how physically small the OEM one was compared to the Bosch 010.

Not sure if I'll get a chance to measure the AIT's (didn't take a before measurement anyhow) but the charge coolers felt somewhat cooler to touch than I recall. The main intake pipe to the TB felt hotter than I remember, I'm putting that down to the 3lb pulley that's been installed.

So I hope that the higher coolant flow will compensate for the heat generated by the pulley.

Thanks for the feedback Cambo. That may be the reason I ordered the 002 Bosch pump. I also thought about less dwell time of the coolant going through the I/C radiator because of the higher flow rate from the pump---but I don't know if that makes any real difference to the amount of heat transfer from the coolant to the air at the radiator. At any rate it's a step up from the Hella at a third of the cost.

Fellow Phoenician, wondering why you cannot just snip the wires in the center, keeping both the main pins to the IC pump intact and the connect to the car intact, and simply splice the wires together?

I didn't have a connector or pigtail for the 010 pump so had to invent something. I've not heard of a source for a pigtail to connect this pump and have heard from other members that the 002 model has a different connector, so won't work.

If there is an easy source, then what you suggest would be WAY easier.

to install my pump I went to the Mercedes dealership (the Bosch 010 is installed on the C63 AMG) and I have got the mercedes connector. Easy installation and perfect.
