no, although I did consider the hydro-dipped route but I have practiced trompe l'oeil all my life in one form or another. It seemed like the perfect time to make it exactly what I wanted. It is simply paint with 15 coats of clear enamel. I will be doing a "how to" today or tomorrow if I have time.

I considered hydrodipping but there is a texture that would need to be sanded off. I also wanted to get the most perfect color match to the wood window controls as possible.
The products used are yellow spray paint, mahogany gel stain and lots of clear enamel. In the next few days I will get my "how to" done and you will see how easy it is.

Very cool! Just the sort of mod I like!
I eagerly await the tutorial. I have wanted budget wood door cups for a while and after putting fake wood trim around the center stack, this is perfect. This is also a nice solution since I seemed to have lost one of my seatbelt caps and nobody seems to have a matching one (odd). I may try this.

15 coats of enamel? I must admit that your finished product is gorgeous, but the required process to achieve the desired appearance is just way too obsessive-compulsive for me....

White Bear - It took me a while to find this old post "how to" create wood like plastic for your Jaguar and I don't know how to link to an old post but here it is in PDF form. Enjoy. It is kind of fun to do and the results which are now at least 3 years old are still like new.
