Question Proper level for power steering fluid?

Hello guys;

The power steering fluid reservoir cap has an integrated dipstick, but I can't seem to find any documentation on what the proper fluid level is. I do see markings on the stick...but no MIN or MAX indications. Which part of the dipstick is the correct level for the fluid?

Sorry for the semi-dumb question...I searched for an answer to this one and didn't find it.

Thanks.

I just checked mine and found the same situation. I have the hash marks with no indication of min or max. I checked the owners manual which gives some helpful info as follows. "Check the fluid level when the engine is cold and the vehicle is on a level surface. Wipe clean and remove the filler cap from the reservoir;take great care to prevent any foreign matter from entering. Check that the fluid level is between the marks on the dipstick". Hope this helps.

Yes, Mark and his tech did my pre-purchase inspection back in early June (I'm new to the XK8 world).

He seems like a good guy...his tech seemed knowledgeable...but I came away with an iffy feeling about the place. This may not be a fair assessment, but it seems they are really trying to find some business and may be struggling. What I could see of the shop (he didn't seem to want me back there) wasn't impressive.

I'd heard several good things about Watson Import Specialists just up the road from Jaguar South, in Greer. When I need a shop, William Watson is my guy. He's been doing Jags for 16 years, he's had the same tech with him for 14 of those years, and he's just about seen it all. It's hard to impress him with a problem and he's just as likely to tell you what you DON'T need as he is to tell you what you do need. Labor rate is $ 85 per hour.

How do you drain the fluid from the power steering reservoir. I accidently added a small amount of coolant fluid by mistake.

Just use a turkey baster or syringe to pull oil out of the reservoir.

Sorry I am so Late on replying back. I did what you said, but...now it makes a weird sqeeking noise. I have emptied the reservoir twice and added new once it looked empty. Maybe I am not getting it all out?
