Question Replacement ECU for 2001 XKR

Hi
I have a 2001 XKR 4lir supercharged. I need a new ecu for the engine ($4,000)

I found one on ebay for a 98 XJR same serial numbers and brand NAME $60.

At this price I think it's worth a punt.

My question is:
1. Will I encounter any compatibility problems installing the new ecu?
2. What do I need to do to make them shake hands.
3. I it won't work any sources or suggestions?

Some ECUs you can exhcange, not sure about 2 different models (ie like XJR one), but you would need at least an ECU from the same year, ie a 98 xkr ecu will not work on a 01 xkr.

what is wrong with the orig unit???? Maybe it can be fixed? My 1997 jag I had, had ecm issues, they bench tested, fixed it, sent it back for under 300 bucks if I recall, but that was 5 years ago. I have had this company work on a few things for me as others have too. They may be able to help.

AJ26 ECM is NOT compatible with AJ27!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus you really need to understand VCATS.

i think the unit I have was the wrong one in the first place.

The part number on the back of the ecm says LNC1410CA which indicates an 98-99 XJR model.

SC parts in the uk asked me to find the vcats number in the trunk and I cant find that either.

The vin number is SAJDA42B41PA18809 xkr 4 ltr 2001

Anyone know a good supplier that won't charge ridiculous money to replace.

If the car was running then it must have been the right one.

+1 on VCATS. Bear in mind that Bob knows his stuff.

I've merged the two threads together since it's basically the same topic.

I'm not really familar with the X100 XKR but with later models if you swap out modules without programming the cars get immobilised because of the security protocols. Taking a secondhand ECU that was programmed to another vehicle will also create problems like the VIN of the donor car will be displayed when scanned, so any new ECU needs to be re-flashed to the vehicle.

Even if you source an ECU of the same part number, it still needs to be programmed to the car i.e. with a dealer-level diagnostic system, such as the WDS, IDS or SDD systems. If you don't have one or access to one, and know how to use it you still won't be able to solve your problem.

I have bought 2 reserve ECU’s without knowing the vcats numbers (but was aware about the vcats configurations) and only made sure it was at least the same partno. You can get them sometimes very cheap, it was worth the risk for me. Both of them are actually working on my car without any issues, only needed to do the immobilization procedure as Cambo351 mentioned. For the newer cars (ie x103) you need to reprogram them as new ones so they get an updated vid block (something similar to the older vcats setup).

I don’t believe there are many different critical configuration items for the x100 models ECU’s, although one thing for instance that is important with the ECU is the ACC system. This is not a common option, so if you don’t have one now, you have the best chances of also getting one again without that configuration. Maybe Motorcarman can inform on what other important differences there where that you need to watch for if you go this route.

Hello avos:

My 2001 XKR has an intermittent problem that I have traced to the ECU. My car is X100 vintage. What is your multi-year experience with your two same part number ECUs. Where can I get the immobilization procedure? Thank you in advance for your help.

Very respectfully, Bob G in Florida.
