Default Square plastic Tab beneath Seat belt 1998

Hi, I managed to jamb my seatbelt between the seat an the inside car wall just below the slot for the retractor. Certainly not a big deal, but I am stumped. There is a small square tab right there below the seat belt slot (1 inch by 1 inch or so) that I managed to break off. I looked at the passenger side - there is one there too. Wondering what it could be for, I pulled on that one gently - snap! Have to laugh at myself and at the same time give you a warning, you probably never even noticed it either and as you explore, secretly hoping to yourself that some James Bond type gadget will reveal itself :-) , be careful, they are fragile.

Does anyone know what these are for? I am stumped. Thanks, John

Hi Jonken,
If I understand you correctly, the tabs are to stow the seat belt away against the trim panel when not in use.

As you've discovered, they are fragile! - I managed to do the same as you on one side. Superglue worked for me, although I'm very careful when I use these clips now!

I suspect they were designed by the same engineer who thought up the plastic flap that covered the timer buttons on video recorders. I spent a good amount of my early time replacing these when the tiny bits of plastic broke off.

Unfortunately this disease seems to have spread most everywhere these days - does your tv remote still have the batter cover intact or is it covered with Sellotape

Default thanks

Michael, thank you. It is curious - you can't drive the car without seat belts. Guess it is for the passenger side and/or parking.
