On the subject of Color.....

It does have some issues from sitting on lot for a long time from orig owner (supposedly 2-3 years, rich owner). It seems that the paint is cracked under the clearcoat but the clearcoat itself is fine. Its got a few door scratches and chips in the front, but we love it just the same.
My wife always says she wants our jag in pink, if we were to repaint it due to the above issue. Before you say, ewwwww, think a nice (darkish) pearl or candy pink over black.
Something like this, maybe slightly more towards pink, but also with more black
I've never seen it on this car but would be very interested. I imagine the lovely lines would do marvelous things with a paint like that.
(I can't really find a good example online, but that is the effect i'm thinking of)

I guess it's about personal taste, and yes Black, Burgundy, Royal/Navy Blues, Reds etc do look good, but if you don't want to spend every weekend washing the damned thing, then these are my recommendations (not necessarily in order):-
Silver, White, Light Bronze/Gold, Light Grey.
My father had a Daimler Consort when I got my licence: it was Black, and a constant pain to keep clean. Worse, we lived down a private road (gravel surface) about a quarter mile long. The car was kept well waxed (Simonize Silicon, anyone remember), and finished off regularly with Mr Sheen silicon furniture polish (left an amazingly smooth, slippery surface), but it showed every speck of dust that ever came near. It was wonderful to sit in the car & look across the wonderful long bonnet after cleaning the car.
It was the last black car my father ever owned.
Cheers,
Languid

On the rear of the drivers door opening, you will find a sticker like this:
This happens to be the sticker from my own XK8. You will see the code HGZ which is British Racing Green. The interior trim SDZ is Cashmere leather.

I wash the PBTW's Kitty everyday if the weather permits,,, In fact I just washed and waxed her Kitty this morning and we are going to go out tonight and show it off,,, Dinner I guess,,,
58 degrees here with 25 mile an hour gusts,,, Froze my toes washing it (flip flops ya know) But I got it done,,, We have 9-12 ft seas out in the Gulstream today... Fricken Cold here...
Oh the Heavy flaked Metallic Paints do not fair well down here because of the sun etc... Thou they look good in some applications they may not last as long and require more attention... I would make sure that you have a competent body shop who has done that before and ask all the right questions... Heavy metallic paint is not a job for a MAACO Type Shop,,, in fact a Jaguar should never see the inside of one of those shops...

Nice Color Combo the white with cashmere interior.
The surface temperature difference between a white car and a black car on a hot day is 110 F. degrees.
White is a great color on a car, high visibility day or night, and counter intuitively unless you drive through a pig sty (no offense Steveinfrance) it will not show dirt.
Have yet to see a bad factory color on the XK series.
Around here we have a saying "Don't dunk the kitty" which is a small indication of how pissed off the ISMW gets if you try to push her around or say something really dumb.
Cute complaining about 58 degrees when when we haven't seen above 20 degrees for two weeks......see above....you were warned.
Frosty You Dirty Boy.
cheers,
jj

Al,
Are you sneaking round and secretly washing my Frost Blue XK8? It never looks as if it needs a wash either!
Other than a white Land Rover Safari which was always covered in mud, I've gone for dark blue or black before. Always needed washing once and sometimes twice a week.
Have to agree - light colours need much less regular attention.

I've been partial to red cars ever since my dad owned a burgundy XKE V12 some 40 years ago. Came across my '05 carnival red XK8 (cashmere interior) a few months ago and just couldn't resist. Dark cars do really pop WHEN CLEAN but light ones look good all the time. Let's face it... these cars turn heads no matter what color.

Although my car is BRG, I wish it was black. Have had 12 black cars over the years and yes, they can be a pain to keep clean but they look "oh so nice".
Color is in the eye of the beholder. White can be nice on certain cars but NEVER in the snow belt. Down right dangerous.

I miss the car but I don't miss cleaning it!

As a foot note to color and visibility here an insurance study once found that green cars have the highest accident rate. Hard to see in the day or night.
Another study found that driving with your lights on in the day time reduces accidents by 80%. Cheapest insurance you can have.
