Default Time for me to bow out :)

After 2.5 years Jaguar ownership, I have decided the time has come to move on. I love my XKR, but I just never have the opportunity to drive it any more (I've done less than 1500 miles so far this year) and, as it has now been tweaked to 'perfection', I don't even get any enjoyment out of tinkering with it.

So, it's time for a rethink and the car is up for sale. Here's what my wife & I will be doing with the money

1. a new Volkswagen Up for me, ordered yesterday, delivery early November. Yes, that's right; I am moving from a 400hp supercharged V8 to a 75hp 3-cylinder. How depressingly eco-friendly is that!

+

2. a large downpayment on a new Ford S-Max for the wife, children, etc.

+ with what's left:

3. A week's holiday in this Santorini (Greek Island) hotel for the wife & me - NO KIDS!

A HUGE thank-you to all the members of this forum, without whom I would never even dared buy a Jaguar in the first place. I have really enjoyed my months on here and always looked forward to reading the new posts every morning while I had my breakfast.

I'm sure I will miss both the car and this forum, but things move on in life and it's good to change once in a while. I will stop by from time to time to see how you are all doing.

Merci pour tout et bonne continuation

A sad day Frog. Very sorry to hear that you are parting with your beautiful cat.

I am sure you will be back in a Jag soon enough, once bitten forever smitten.

All the best,

Sorry to hear you're moving on. I'll miss your posts and seeing the only other Frost Blue 'Final Series' here.

Let us know where the car goes.

Graham

Well that's a sad post Frog. Pop in from time to time when you have time. Try and enjoy the new wheels. (stick a Leaper on what there is of a bonnet)
Cheers,Neil.

I am Greek and also own a VW UP! as my city car.

The UP! has been a major disappointment for me, very poorly built, I have only done 2k miles on it from new and the start stop already does not work (in fact never did just do not have the time to take it back), the SAT NAV freezes every other day together with the bluetooth, on the days the bluetooth is not frozen the sound quality is so bad you cannot have a conversation, the trip computer resets whenever it wants, the suspension makes funny noises... I knew I was buying an entry level model but I would not buy it again

Santorini is a very nice island, definitely worth a visit, especially this time of the year, can't go wrong with it.

I hope its all money well spent as your Jag definitely stands out.

Take care!!

Pavlos

Frog, I am making that decision every day.

Most trips feels like a Top Gear adventure without the backup team and car. At some time I will have to make that same decision, and it is not going to be easy.

Fortunately my daily driver is a VW Jetta TDi, and if the UP is anything like my Jetta, you will enjoy it. Not a single issue so far! I think that the UP would be the equivalent of a Fiat Uno (1100cc) I had years back. You cannot believe how much fun these small cars can be. The only difference between having fun with 400hp vs 75hp, is that the 75hp will happen at legal speeds!

Don't be a complete stranger!

Always enjoyed reading your posts. What happened to the AM dream car? Quite the turn-about! I wish you the best (and wish I could buy your car).

We'll miss the car and commentary, but as others say, you're always welcome here, no matter what Econo-box you happen to be driving.

Perhaps you should drive the car to Greece as one last hurrah?

Thanks for all the heart-felt comments

You're right, I was on the verge of buying an Aston Martin a few months ago, but I just can't justify a car like that at the moment. (a) they cost a fortune and (b) it would just end up sitting in the garage all its life.

The XKR was great and made me feel like James Bond, but all I did was get it out of the garage a couple of times a week and drive round in a big loop for 30 minutes to warm the engine up before coming home and putting it back in the garage. I never dare park it anywhere in case it got scratched... I had become a slave to the car and, as JSC says above, I always had the nagging feeling that, were I to risk a long trip, something would bound to go wrong and cost mega bucks to fix.

I am therefore going back to my roots: the Up will remind me of my very first car, a 1978 Polo, and at least I will use it, even if nobody mistakes me for James Bond anymore

Thanks again.

Best wishes from me as well. I completely understand your dilemma - I despise owning garage queens and have refused to do so for more than 20 years now. If the vehicle doesn't fit in our daily rotation, I sell it. Vehicles are happier and healthier when driven regularly, and life in general is so much easier that way....

Good luck with your new fleet....
