xkr 4.2 question

xkr 4.2 question
Is it the intercoolers that have a different bolt pattern or the heads. In otherwords if I have a 2003 XKR engine can my 2001 IC's still bolt up?
I just sent out a spare set of IC's (from a 2000) I had to get hydro dipped and wanted to know if they would work. I have a complete 2003 engine so I have the right ones eventually....
Thanks

My understanding is that they are different. It's mentioned in this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...k-4-2-a-23763/

Its just not clear. If I were a manufacturer it be MUCH CHEAPER to just use the 4.0 heads on the 4.2 block reusing the existing IC's. Now besides that which is just me thinking out loud the thread just isn't clear to me as ive gone over it. I'm sure someone's done the actual swap and will chime in. Or ill just pull apart what I have here and take a lookie...But im not ready to do the swap just yet. Its for a rainy day

From what is written I think it's pretty clear that if you want to put 4.0 charge coolers on a 4.2 then the bolt holes don't line up and you need to tap new holes in the heads.
Modifications needed:
-Bolt holes from Intake manifold do not line up, when counting from the front, numbers 2 and 4 fit, and new tapered holes need to be made in the heads for 1 3 and 5 (easy). Then port the intake manifold to ensure good alignment with the intake ports of the head.
* The AJ33/34/36 inlet system doesnt align up to the AJ27 because it tried to pioneer a system called CBR or controlled burn rate from a consultancy in Austria but the system was a failure thanks to optimistic claims on the part of the consulatnacy. I feel sure that they can still be adapted to one another with some ingenuity.

The 4.2 heads are different, the injector manifolds are different and thus the intercoolers are different.
There are a number of subtle differences when doing an engine swap. Some sensors on the 4.2 that aren't on the 4.0. There are several different reluctor types on the cams depending on AJ26/27/33. You have to match that stuff up to keep the ECU happy.
Mostly what people do is use the 4.2 long block and the 4.0 top end.
I know Mr Enderle did the opposite, bought AJ27 intercoolers and they wouldn't fit his AJ33.

Oh this will be fun then. I guess Ill sell my IC's when the time comes. I shouldn't of expected Jaguar to makes sense. Figured maybe ford would have done it for them but guess not. Ill see what the easiest way to go about it is when the time comes. Swap heads or...I do have a complete 2003 xkr engine
Thanks guys
