Default 2006 XKR hood shut, but dash display says "hood not latched"

My 2006 XKR convertible (Victory Edition) chronically displays a "Hood not Latched" message in the dash. I've opened and shut the hood a few times and that all works fine. So I'm looking for the electrical sensor/switch that is sending the false signal. But I'm having trouble finding it. Thanks for any info.

When my car signals hood latch not down it means the convertible latch at the top has not closed fully. It took me a while to figure it out. I have a xk8 2002 but I'm sure it's the same issue.

FYI: Bonnet=Hood, Hood=Roof of Car, Boot=Trunk; if you were to leave the Trunk of the car open the display would read 'Boot Open'. The Top Latch on the Convertible Top is not latched completely, or a Micro-Switch is failing/dirty at the latch. Have you searched and read about the 'Green Shower', where the Latch Ram Seals, or the Latch Ram Hoses come apart above the Overhead Console causing a huge mess of pressurized Hydraulic Fluid?

You need to set the INST PK language to Japanese and then tell us the display has a 'bunch-of-squiggly-writing'.

I used to do that to the new guys in the shop at the Jag dealer just for fun.
I told them they broke the car, what have they done and how were they going to fix it??????

Ah,
I will look into the top latch mechanism. The top has been down for that last couple weeks - I don't remember seeing the "Hood Not Latched" message prior to that. The only other person that I know who owned an XK of this era experienced the "green shower" at one point. I will investigate preventative maintenance options.

[QUOTE=dcarr;1543039]Ah,

Since the top has been down for the last couple of weeks, have you tried cycling the Convertible Top up and down a few times to see if the latch seats properly on it's own? The latch may need some lubrication, or has dirt/sand in it that needs to be blasted out with canned air. My top latch had been bent at some point prior to my ownership, and it is obvious someone took pliers to it at some point to bend it back to the original shape to allow it to properly catch the top, but it works.

For the record, I opened my hood yesterday and the message is :Hood Open. Looks like "Latched" means roof as stated above.

You can set the INST PK language to ENGLISH (US) or ENGLISH (UK), or Espanol, Francais, Italiano, Deutsch, etc.

Whatever you like.

On mine I get 'Bonnet Open' for the Hood, and 'Boot Open' when I pop the Trunk, my INST PK must be set to English (UK), rather than English (US).

That's kind of cool... is there an easy way to change the language on there? Or does it require a upper level OB2 reader?

Oh duh I think I found it..

Display language
To change the display language, switch the ignition ON while pressing the ‘ML/km’ switch. The trip computer will display the current language.
Press the ‘ML/km’ switch repeatedly to cycle through the available languages. Once the correct language is selected, press the ‘A/B’ switch.
The new language will be selected after a delay of three seconds.
Note:
If you wish to exit the language selection function without changing the display language, you can either press the ‘RESET’ switch, wait for 10 seconds or switch the ignition OFF.
