AC Compressor lock signal fault

AC Compressor lock signal fault
Hi,
Here's my problem, switch air con on runs for a second, then AC light flashes and AC stops, error code 22 = "Compressor lock signal fault" is stored.
Had system re-gassed, changed pressure switch.
The relay is OK Getting 12v feed to the switch and trigger circuits. When initially turned on the signal triggers, relay turns on and the compressor spins, but after a few seconds the signal stops, relay goes off, compressor stops & AC light flashes, code 22.
When you bypass the relay, the compressor clutch engages and you can see it spinning and you get nice cold air.
I assume that if the compressor spins at all then there is no "Compressor Lock", therefore am I looking for harness / wiring / connector fault???
How do you check the compressor oil level?
Can this be done without losing all the gas?
Anyone with more knowledge on this any ideas?
Anyone seen this before?
Is it a common fault?
Thanks in advance, Tony.

I see that you’re A/C is configured a little differently than my 99 so I am not sure I can help. As for checking the oil level you will need to remove the compressor to do it properly but I am not sure the oil level or compressor is your problem if it works as you indicated. I am attaching a link to the oneline for your car and I am assuming it is a 97 and Look at figure 7.1 & 7.2 you will see the lock sensor.

I would be tracing the leads from the lock sensor, temp sensor and the A/C control module.
