Default Any ideas on this

Hi guys,I've just noticed a very small Squeaking/Creeking sound coming from the o/s front suspension area, imagen the sound you would get if you twisted a new lether wallet so it's not a mitalic sound, ime thinking it may be a bush or one of the rubber components around that area, the drive and handling of the car is spot on,I only seam to get the sound at very slow speeds over uneven ground around 5mph or if i rock the car ,going to try some lube spray on the rubbers over the weekend but any ideas on what to check would be great, thanks

The upper wishbones have metal washers that bushing rubber can stick to, making a squeak.

It's probably time for All new upper wishbone bushings. This is a job anyone with tools can do.

May also be anti roll bar bushes or the top suspension mounts.

My first thought would be upper wishbone bushes but there's several other possibilities in the suspension assembly.

I had an annoying squeak on the RH rear suspension of my XK which proved impossible to source just by inspection. We finally raised the RH rear of the body on an axle stand (leaving the normal load on the other three wheels), removed the wheel and raised then lowered the suspension assembly with a trolley jack until we found the one bush that was causing the noise at one particular point in the suspension travel.

I rebuilt my front suspension with new balljoints and bushings, and when I was bolting in the newly bushed upper wishbones, I noticed they squeaked when I moved them up/ down (they were still free and not installed into the hub assy).

I tore them back apart and saw there was old bushing rubber that had vulcanized to the large washers (not the smaller caster shims) that was the source of the squeaking. I cleaned the washers so they were shiny metal and applied grease between the washers and bushings and the wishbones were now silent.

It was very little material that was the sources of the squeaking, and since it was OEM bushing material, its very likely other cars would have the same problem.

I was going to warn you of using a lubricant on your rubber bushings a few products will attack the rubber bushings causing them to have a short life. Lubricating your ball joints and universal joints is never a bad idea.
