Default Block took a dump

Took the cat for gas, misfire and white oil smoke,no over heating,no low oil, internals are fine, the dealership says the block is spider cracked at casting marks and the 4.0 block is junk, known to crack all over for no reason and fail inside and out. I'm con fused, jaguar said they are not replacing my block free even after admitting to this defect, and telling me not to fix it as its a very common problem and calling this a unfixabled event, any opinions lol,I can get a block for 100.00,and put my internals inside, but am concerned, as the block can't be machined to ease my mind, due to jaguar's clever engineering rip off artist.

Could it be just a blown head gasket? Did they actually open the engine up and check it for cracks or are they just guessing?

It's externally spidered all over casting marks, oil pouring out the spidered casting marks, externally and internally. They showed the external cracks and leaks to me,then used a camera in the spark plug hole to show cracks in the cylinder walls and nikasal lining failure.the car only has 117kk,apparently this is nothing new to them.

That sucks. I've never heard of that happening to these before.

I've never heard of this happening on any engine, Jaguar or other. If there were through-cracks as stated, coolant would leak out, not oil.

Something doesn't add up.

I had a few POROUS block problems with the V8 4.0 to deal with back in the early 2000s.
Most were revealed in warranty so the owner was compensated with a replacement engine.

I have NO IDEA what Make Model Year you are talking about but good luck!!!!!
Mystery cars are so hard to diagnose.

. 2000 xkr.aka cream puff. A master tech told me to get a xk8 or xkr with a 5.0 engine, as that engine, fixed all casting, thermal expansion, nikisil liner, and faulty casting practice issues. I told him I would,if he bought the car for me! Jaguar kept this issue quiet he explained, and my block should of been replaced in 2000,but apparently the owner did not have their service with jaguar.

So quite that several of us that have been around a while have never heard of it.

As mentioned, sounds more like a head gasket.

The nikasil issue is very well documented and affected several OEMs, not just Jag. It was no 'secret'. The warranty policy tidily took care of affected cars.

Your 'mechanic' is mixing bits of several different, unrelated stories together and coming up with a nice conspiracy theory.

Jaguar corporate customer service is offering to replace my short block ,with one with guaranteed steel lined sleeved?at a reduced cost of $5,102.34 total or give me a 14% incentive on another unit or free 3 years of regular scheduled maintenance on anything purchased from a Jaguar dealership for my as described"misfortune ". I picked up my car, and cursed everyone out,as they said I'm not being cost effective for this old car. A local Indy said he can put in a 4.0 or 4.2 for $3,150 out the door in 5 days,my tranny is brand new,$ 8,210.00 from Jaguar! They set me up guys,I'll never go back to them for service, Thanks everyone, I seen the broken boss off the block holding the ac compressor top rear bolt and scorned cylinder walls, the block is trashed! The mechnic says it will eat new head gaskets up,because it can't be machined

We need to follow this carefully and precisely.

Should I assume that the $5,100 is a drive out total cost for a short block replacement, labor and material?

Any reference to authorization from Jaguar would also be appreciated.

they said, my vin indicated my xkr was imported as well into the USA in 2000, and prior ownership was corporate.the block needs to be STEEL liner ,what ever that is. I thought the block was all STEEL.

Aluminum block, steel sleeves.

Something is just not right here. The key issue is why they are 'warranting' the block after 15 years. That has never surfaced before. A short block for $5k is about the cost of a replacement engine, parts and labor.

You may be getting a good deal or you may may not be getting such. It is not clear at this point.

That's a pretty decent deal for a Jag installed short block considering the damaged engine is about 15 years old and out of warranty for 12.

If your indy is offering you a used engine with no warranty for $3150, I'd take the dealer's offer any day.

Jags have had aluminum engines since 1984ish.

They are saying the car was imported to the USA, and a corporate vehicle. This alone is causing all kind of hell as why my nikisil was not not replaced in 2000.Apparently,August 2000 the steel lining hit production. The mechanics at the dealership says this work is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT ! And there will be parts I need to replace, as they tear the car down, including oil lines, o rings etc that have nothing to do with the block and says elcetrical connectors will break and no longer available and I might have electrical malfunctions due to wiring movements???The Indy says he gives a 3 year warranty, and will install new heagaskets and my reuse my new tensioners and chains.new water pump etc

The engine were replaced under warranty IF they had a problem. Yours and many thousands of others didn't.

Swapping an engine is not rocket science.

Ok . . . stop . . . .

All Jaguars were imported to the US . . . many were corporate leases . . . not part of the discussion.

We have a communications problem.

What is the dealer proposing to do?

Where did the Indy come in and what is his proposal?

Keep it that simple.

Still think it is a head gasket.

Indy confirmed the car only has a bad head gasket, most oil on the block castings is old oil from a previous valve cover leaking, not new oil,the ac boss is cosmetic. The marks on the cylinderwalls are normal looking to him.He cleaned the block off with a pressure washer and confirmed its completely fine.My coolant level is fine and clean, oil lev a quart lowdue ti gasket, engine is fine.New gaskets are being ordered with new bolts as we speak. He is overbooked and working late hours, but said my lower crank dampner is stuck,so he is letting penetrating oil sit overnight. Charge is $1750, parts and labor. And about a 4 week wait, as the dampner put me behind other cars that was there before me.The dealer is bad business, they lost me as a customer,my car was running awesome before this.
