Brake light relay...

Brake light relay...
Gang,
I bought my 1999 XK8 several weeks ago and have been having rear light issues from day-1.
Here's my question...does the brake light relay take a different relay than the other relays in the board?
The one that is in the brake light slot now is LJA6703AA.
Here's what prompts me to ask;
I removed several adjacent relays and took my volt meter to them and easily found the hot plug, the ground plug, etc.
But all 4 posts on the brake light relay had voltage running to it, and the voltage left one of the posts when the brake pedal was depressed. The exact opposite of what I would expect.
Hmmmm!
My assumptions would be;
-This relay slot uses a different style of relay than the other slots
or
-I have a short in the wiring somewhere before the relay slot.
If this slot demands a different relay, then I would be one happy boy, so any help here would be greatly appreciated.
