Great!

I'm really looking forward to watching your progress.

I hope you can enjoy driving your car soon.

I've been thinking about getting an XK8, and this gives me something to dream about.

My wife noticed me talking about your EV conversion, and already told me "No more new projects for now!"

But I will keep dreaming. And by the time I am ready, maybe batteries will be cheaper.

It sounds like that guy made or is making an open source transmission controller for EV's, so I think you are all set. He talks about that in episode 32 of his conversion project.

Even though he has the same transmission, BMW has a slightly different system, (tiptronic) so he can manually shift his up and down easily. I suppose you won't need first with all your torque, so maybe the J-gate is similar and D becomes fifth.

Maybe you could put paddles on the wheel, since all the electrics and everything is already there though.

It looks like people have done paddle and wheel button conversions for the ZF XK8's, too.

Wow! すごい!I can't wait to see videos of you driving around.

I liked the video of those guys in Holland driving their EV XK8 until I saw their back seat. That was a turnoff for me, personally.

Looks like you will get the motor in there soon!

It's still along way away from getting all the battery box made, sort out 12v system, HV system sorted As well as cosmetic upgrades and electronic (CAN) sorting to do.

I am starting to consider deleting rear seat as a weight reduction and easy access to the batteries in the fuel tank...Don't you like the idea of rear seat delete?

I don't envy you the time you will spend figuring out all that CAN bus stuff! Not fun for someone like me, but maybe that is easy for you or your friends. ;-)

It is not my place to say what you should do with your back seat, but my OPINION is that you should keep it. For your (future) kids! It is a big car, so to me personally, I like the idea of the rear seat in there. But I have never had to sit in one. I understand it can be considered cruel and unusual punishment for adults. But it may be ideal for young Japanese kids.

What I was referring to was this view:

They must have covered it, and I did not see that....

I don't know how many of your batteries you can fit in the gas tank, but that is certainly a nice space. I was very impressed by how that guy doing the BMW conversion could find and fill all kinds of spaces under the car with battery boxes.

Will you have any space left under the hood? Your new motor looks a lot smaller than your old one. ;-)

jaggedy> you live in japan??

I am not planning to have kids any time soon..so no one uses the back seat The idea I am having, is to convert the rear seat as a clean storage like everyone else like this↓

I am planning to place 56cells on the fuel talk area, rest of 40 cells under the hood.
I will use next couple weeks to figure out where every items(Vacuum pump, Power steering, DC-DC, Charger, Fast-Charger, cells, motor controller ect) goes inside the car.

I did live there for several years a few decades ago, but don't return very often.

I was going to say that there was a time that some young ladies were impressed by nice cars, so a cool Jag might shorten the time til kids show up.

But I am not sure that that is true anymore. If it ever was....

If I do a convertible XK8, will it shorten the time till grandkids?

Maybe it will increase the time grandkids spend with me?

Long overdue update.
Motor is now fitted to the engine mount + trans!
I am now at the stage of making cardboard prototype for other components to be fitted into the engine compartment as well as rear section of the car.

Since my last update, I've taken my bonnet to the concept car designer/ manufacture (He has worked for Merc, Mazda, Nissan ect) to make a carbon fiber version of it. (Aim is to save weight)
We are working on getting it as OEM as possible but he has advised me to use hood pin at the front...will discuss more in detail after he has taken close look at it.

here is the crazy method of how I've transported the bonnet for 300km on highway!

hard to see, but there is enough gap between cross-member and the motor.

Update!
I've been busy sorting out the carbon fiber bonnet design with the designer but that's almost done(to be completed by the end of this year).

Also, I've started 3D CAD of my EV with batteries and a charger placement. Must say, there are alot of space needed!
I've made my mind up to delete the rear seats and make a hole there to be able to slide the battery box with slide rail. (located where fuel tank used to be.)

Also, I've decided to get rid of radiator grills to make more space for the battery. (I will sort out AC later down the line, Transmission wise, it shouldn't need cooling as much as before.)

I've also started welding my first battery box!
(Not bad for a first time welding! )

Front Battery box design (Radiator will also be removed)

Batteries fitted to where radiator used to be

Started welding cell box

Started welding cell box part2

Rear seat deleted. Let's make a hole!

rear battery placement

rear battery box with slide rail design
