Default EGR deletion

Hi all,
what happen if i replace the holed gasket in picture with a metal closed one, mean removing the hole, on the exhaust manifold side?
I searched, and seems that EU 4.0 engines should not have a pressure detection. My XKR is 2001.
Reason is because i think the pipe is slightly cracked, due to exhaust smell in engine bay coming from the tube location.... No codes for the moment, only some smell.
Thanks

If you do that, you would obviously defeat the purpose of the EGR in the first place, which is to lower your combustion chamber temperature and slow down the generation of NOx. Wikipedia has a good write-up. That being said, best I can figure, all XKRs came with EGR, but not all XK8 did. If it was me, I would try and keep the EGR functional as it came with the car.

Exhaust_gas_recirculation

There have been some recent posts before about the bellows on that pipe developing some cracks and eventually leading to some codes. I would say your best bet is to locate a used replacement. Just my thoughts.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

PS: Very jealous that you guys in Italy get to have these Lancia Deltas around. I remember getting a ride in one after a car show in Brussels in the late 80s, driven by a pro rally driver. Have always loved that look with the wide fenders, similar to the E30 M3. Closest we had here was the Mazda 323 GTX.

Was too young to own one of the last Fulvia Zagato.....
Anyway, getting back to topic, i understand the usage of recirculating. Just for academic purpose, if the egr takes fumes only from bank 1, do you think the ecm has differnt values for the banks, due some co and nox is missing on one side?
