Default Fuse boxes

Is there anything, anywhere, somehow, showing in an intelligent manner, all the fuse boxes, and what the fuses and relays are for? I have a 99 XK8, and get tired of the hunt, that almost all manufacturers have gotten rid of. Please don't tell me it is in one of the 4 owner's manuals, that my car didn't come with. I even have the factory repair manual on disc, and it is some electrical engineer's wet dream....signed.....Frustrated

I hear ya, Plow.

It is amazing to me that after going through all 152 pages of my car's Electrical Manual, there is no simple collation of the fuses in each fuse box, and what item is protected by each fuse. Just about every car I ever owned has had this info, and it was usually in the Owner's Manual; easily accessible to all owners and not some mystical knowledge reserved only for "The Enlightened".

That said, If you can isolate a problem to a given system, the Jaguar electrical manual is a pretty comprehensive tool to work with. It even has an acronym glossary - bravo!

The fuse charts are on the underside of the trunk fuse panel cover on the early cars, in the Owner's Manual for most years, in the sticky link above and right here:

The relay charts are located near the beginning of the JTIS electrical section.

Be very careful going one year to another, like 1999/2000/2001/2002

I have fuse ID's from ALLDATADIY for my 2000 XK8 COUPE, and although I find them to be very accurate normally, it does not match up completely with my fuses. They say they get all their info from the MFG. Then, I tried using the diagrams provided in the DIY Repair section on this forum. Could not find the one for 2000, and 1999 and 2002 do not match mine ! (by not matching I mean that some fuses are not shown, and some have a different function than stated)

And yes, why couldn't Jaguar simply have the diagram on the underside of the fusebox lids like every other car I have owned, going back to my 1955 Silver Dawn !

I can see why that chart might not reside on the cover of the fuse boxes. Let's face it folks, we have just a few more fuses than my GT6 (3) or MGB (2), and the number of items/systems they protect is voluminous. This info, which understandably could be few pages per fuse box, "should" however reside one location; somewhere easily accessible to any owner. Remember: This info should only provide not only a "map" of what number fuse resides in what slot (which is not uncommon even on modern fuse box covers), but also a list of "what" each fuse protects. You now, .... like in the old days. ;-)

All I am asking for is something like in my wife's BMW. Shows all the info needed for 71 fuses on one card. I was going to make a card for each of my fuse boxes, but I so far cannot find a list that is completely correct.

My rear fuse box cover had no information on it. I just bought a rear fuse box cover from a 99 with the info on it for $19......Better than fumbling around in the dark. I will also print and laminate the other info. When you are in a bad situation it is counterproductive to hunt without a map....Thanks....Mike

The Jaguar Electrical Guides have all the fuse/relay box locations in the FRONT MATTERS area.

The individual fuse designations are not listed in the rear fuse/relay box cover for the later cars. The early cars did have that info.

Most Jaguar owners could probably not locate the engine oil level dipstick let alone know how to replace a fuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wasted info for most people.

I hear you Bob. I had been a tech since the mid 70s on mainly German cars, in the old days, where you passed your master test with VW, by building a complete VW Beetle, and starting her up.

Since being forcibly retired, I just like to kiss, or keep things simple st*pid. Why make life miserable, when it doesn't need to be. I have no idea why my fusebox didn't come with the locations on the lid, but I may even clear the new one, to preserve the writing. I enjoy these relatively simple cars. I just wish I had a nicer scanner for the ABS. I left the dealer just as OBDII started, because I saw how older techs got abused, until they either quit, or starved.

I would still be working if it hadn't been for that inch and a half of rusty muffler clamp entering my brain, when the hoist dropped a little. I worked over 10 years after that, at the dealer, but in the end the headaches and infections got me, and I decided to be a millwright manager, until the company retired me.

I love these cars, and the generous people I have met, who own them......Mike

Haha,... I guess I owe Coventry an apology. I took a look under the trunk fuse cover. Nope. Nada. Nothing there. Then out of desperation, I looked in the owner's manual. Amazing. For all the useful info they DON'T put in there, by God, they did list the fuses. Now to see if it actually matches what's in the car.

;-)
