Default help with ,no spark hot

Hi guys ,I'm new to the forums as I recently bought a 1997 XK8 with problems .
first the transmission needed to be repaired. had a broken forward drum . replaced the drum , clutches ,steels . and installed a transgo pressure regulator valve to FIX the problem of spiking high mainline pressure. Trans seems ok.
I bought the car knowing it had trans problem , now I'm learning the problems the previous owner DIDN'T tell me about !!
After the car runs and is driven for about 20 minutes and get up to temp , when I shut the car off it will not restart, until the car cools down ,30 minutes or so . It always starts after it sits.
I've checked the coil packs and there's no spark when it won't run. once it refires of course there's spark which I verified just to prove to myself I was testing it properly.

hoping maybe some of you have seen this kind of thing before . I'm getting a crank sensor tomorrow to try that. Has some other problems , but I'll try to deal with them one at a time.
Thanks Don

Welcome to the forum Don,

I've moved your thread from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

Get an OBDII reader and read the fault codes, then post them here. Guessing will get very expensive, very quickly.

...OR...it could be a simple fix. I've fixed my XK8 a few times with little to no money.

Why must people on this forum discourage new owners...

my 97 did that, it was the crank sensor/no codes, splice the new one with to the old units wiring, you will never get to the connection, thanks to a wise **** engineer.

Why is recommending getting an OBDII scanner which you can buy for under $10 (see obdii bluetooth | eBay) that will give you important clues as to your problems, saving time, money and aggravation discouraging?

The OBDII isn't the focus of my statement, it's the latter half...

You are completing misinterpreting my intent out of the context of the thread.

Don, the original poster said he had several problems. He made no mention of reading the codes. I was encouraging him to read the codes and approach the problems from a position of knowledge.

Sure you can get lucky at guessing. Depending on your experience, you might be able to intuit the cause of certain problems. But spending a few bucks on an OBDII scanner can save a lot of heartache and expense...that was my point in the context of this thread.

white xkr ,I thank you for your help. however as I mentioned ,I have a snap on scanner. I didn't mention any codes because I haven't found any. I would never just guess aimlessly. not all problems set DTC's. what's the code for a failed computer? as aode06 mentioned could be crank sensor /no code . I do like that blue 'tooth unit though .

I am finding that if I cycle the key the computer does not seem to store any codes in memory like other cars. seems I am going to have to have the scanner with me when the problem occurs and scan it with out turning the key off

BAD ECM-SEND TO ASI FOR A BENCH TEST OR
rotary switch on transmission,failed,mis-adjusted,installed backwards

crank sensor, bottom front/lower/face of transmission. Damaged, burt up, intermittent operation when hot/no operation when hot.

BAD EARTH GROUND OR NO EARTH GROUND STRAP from transmission to passenger side frame-transmission installer error.
